I love big sound, the rumbling of a diesel and the heavy clunking of the metal on metal. So how can I get that heart throbbing feeling in my Bachmann HO Shay? Here is a series of videos on how I try to get that ear blasting feeling using an extra large speaker and the LokSound Select Micro V4.0.

More will be published daily over the next week.

Enjoy, or laugh out loud at me.

Marty,
I salute you sir for digging into this particular upgrade.  I saw your video and know exactly what you're in for. ha.  You will do it.  I have faith in you.  I've added sound to all the bachman engines over the years and have added sound to several of all the logging type locomotives they offered was before you could get'em with sound.  I'll be following this build with you.  Thanx Thom...

I'll be watching closely Marty.....I received one of these Shay's from Tom a few weeks ago and have a decoder and speaker ordered.  :)

Here is part three of trying to get a rectangle speaker into a rectangle tender. Sounds easy eh?

It just might work.

Marty,
               8)  I see you see now!  Good job forging forward sir.  I knew you would come up with a plan that works for you.  I wanted so badly to jump in and tell you want you said in your latest video.  You now know what the biggest and hardest part of any small engine build is.  Congrates.

You still got some work coming, but you're on your way!  Can't wait for the next video update.  I'm captivated also.  Thanx Thom...

Thom, it is always a learning process when working on a new model.

Here is part 4 of me trying to squeeze a large speaker into the tender.

Marty,
My hat is off to you sir for taking the first step in real modeling.  That's learning by doing.  There's nothing in this world that someone can screw up by learning, that can't be fixed by someone knowing by doing.

Good video #4.  keep forging ahead, I'm all eyes and like what your showing!  8)  Thanx Thom...

Thanks Thom, there is still more pain as I try to moderize the lighting in part 5.

Marty,
Great video series. :)  I like how you are loosening up & telling jokes and having fun.  I hope all the viewers tell all their friends to watch this series.  Don't think for a second guys that this isn't modeling or a structure!

It very much is modeling and is very much a structure... A structure that moves and has sound!  Do that to a kit folks!  Add a moving window or door, add lights that turn on and off with sound effects, add something simple as a moving rocking chair on the porch or a store keeper sweeping the sidewalk.

Everyone get my point here?  Marty you are absolutely fantastic at being a good modeler.  Very informative and very entertaining.  Also love all the many, many other videos you've been pumping out!  Others should be replying here to you taking the time to show how you just go ahead and start on a quite complex model with an overall simple goal.

I get some customers who ask me, ah I just want some sound and weathering.  It shouldn't be that hard or take much time.  Perhaps at the end Marty, you should list an overall hours of all the time spent including just learning and designing included.  I think your viewers should be thanking you for taking the time to teach us all a thing or two!

keep on truckin' eagh! Lot's to learn here.  Thanx Thom... P.S. I may have been where you are a time or two?

Marty,

I've been following along but haven't posted due to my own stuff going on. Certainly no excuse, but I've been very busy of late.

Your thread definitely deserves a comment/post for your efforts. I hope other forum members recognize your efforts as well. There is no better motivator than having friends and fellow modelers acknowledge your work.

I've watched all the videos and have enjoyed the progress on the sound installation.

You have taken on an incredible complex sound install and you are faithfully proceeding with due diligence to accomplish the end result. I for one am looking forward to the final video of the loco and all the sound.

Every aspect of modeling includes every piece or item on the layout or diorama. Often modelers over look a loco as they are to busy being mesmerized with structures and other areas.

This thread has been extremely informative and your progress is fantastic. I salute you and your punctilious work on this project.

What Tom said, big words and all.

I think that was one of the most informative Videos I have seen in quite a while.
