I will add some pictures of the nail heads as soon as I figure out why I can't load any pictures to the gallery.  I started a thread to try to get some help.

Forgive me I can't help myself. Nail heads or nail holes? Heads I can dig, holes, building falls down.
Inquiring mind needs to know.
Now be nice.

Hi Karl, I am in agreement. Today at my warehouses, I looked at hundreds of pallets and found all type of nails. Most a bit rusty, some indented a bit, some flush, some having no heads.
But none had fallen out leaving just the hole. (okay, point made). I also noticed they were not generally in a straight line. In HO you have no choice put to run them in a straight line. O. maybe off center a touch. F/G you could vary them a bit more. Last night while pondering this, since I model in O only, I thought I would see what size wire would duplicate a nail. If there was a wire small enough, you would still need the head. I believe I have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous. I have seen the exceptional modelers in the larger scales duplicate the nail and its head.
I am in full agreement, I have spent to much of your time on the subject. Not only Karl's but others.
I will say this, I sincerely admire everyone's skills. And I enjoy the forum immensely. So please don't kick my butt off.
With respect to all.

And I do understand building pallets is not the same as structures.
