I recently finished, earlier this year, a scratchbuilt version of the FSM kit Sewall's Foundry. It all started when a friend sent me a photo copy of the sign for the roof. I cut the letters out and used it as a template to paint the roof. That was my first piece of this puzzle. I built the stone walls from Sculpy, making a 1/4" thick "pizza" of the clay, texturing it with a rock, baking it and cutting strips on the band saw, then cut that into individual rocks. The mortar for the stones is finely sifted dirt.

I don't want to get into too much detail now, but will answer any questions you may have. I'll post some pictures and let them speak for themselves. Oh, I will mention one thing, there is a two drum stand and scaffolding detail that I just love. I saw the model on Facebook by Marcel Ackle. I believe it was O scale, but not sure, but mine is HO scale, of course. I'll post his picture as well as mine. Give credit where credit is due.

Sir, I have always given Marcel a 10. I will give you a 9 plus. Always pays to strive to equal one of the very best. Superb job.
Thank you for sharing and I hope for more.

The idea behind this model is to tie into the Sokol's I also did. The piping on the Sokol's model (drainage pipes) was leaking and needed replacing. This foundry is the main supply for all the needed piping and unions for that job. The pipe elbows, tee's and other pieces all came from Shapeways.

Shown here are a few of the early construction shots.

Hope you'll enjoy seeing this. I gave an hour and a half presentation at my club recently on how I built this, one of my best presentations. A lot of people said they learned a lot. I was happy about that.

Thanks Ed. I'll take a 9 plus. I strive to do as well as Markel and many others. There are many modelers out there far better than I. They are my inspiration.
