Jerry,

Considering how many listings I have seen on Facebook Marketplace where people are listing layouts for sale that might not be a bad idea.  Quite a few are asking high three or low four figures for some bare plywood, track, and plastic buildings.  I wonder if I could generate enough money to move someplace warmer for the winter...

Bob,

Thanks for stopping in and leaving a nice comment.  Any thoughts about starting your own layout now that you are retired?

I thought I would post a few more progress photos.  Nothing too exciting, but a little more progress.

Here's the next set of photos, with once again a small amount of progress.

Jerry, your layout is looking great! Really like the new structures you added too and the addition of the scenery is really making it all come together...Tommy

Yep.  I carved out a space in the garage for a 2' by 8' shelf layout.  Unfortunately, being in Florida, it's rather uncomfortable out there at times.  But, with the cooler months coming up I hope to, at the very least, put together the benchwork for a pair of 2' by 4' modules.  If I manage to complete get those a functioning layout together there will be room to add a third in the future.  For now, two will be enough of a challenge.  :)

Tommy,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a nice comment.  It is coming together much slower than I had planned, but I plan to make some more progress this winter.

Bob,

Glad to read that you are going to start working on a layout.  My only thought is that you either need to build all three modules, or at the minimum plan your track for all three.  I failed to do that when I started my modules and ended up ripping up all the track I had laid when it simply did not work with the additional modules.  One other thing I regret is not using 2" of foam instead of the 1" that I used.  I miss not being able to have more scenery below the track height.

I'm going to post three more photos.  This represents where the layout is at the moment.  I'm working on some freight cars right now, so I'm not sure when I will get back to work on the layout.

I did use a rattle can to prime my rocks. The rocks are a mix of Hydrocal castings and plaster of Paris that I carved.  I was concerned the two different materials would take color differently if I did not start with a base coat of some kind.

Jerry very nice.  And a great job on carving those stone walls.

Jerry,

I appreciate the kind words but cannot take credit.  The stone retaining walls are hydrocal castings I made. The molds are actually the packaging the old Chooch castings came in.  I then used an old table saw with a plywood blade to cut the castings to the height I needed.  The only carving I did was where I was blending the rock castings together by filling the areas between them with some plaster of paris.

Jerry,

I think the use of the sign was a clever idea to protect the backdrop.

I also seem to get more done during the winter months and like Mark said, no weeds or growing grass to bother with.

Looking very good my friend.

Tom,

Thanks for the kind words.  I've been on a freight car building kick.  I was getting bored operating with the same few cars in almost every train.  I plan to get back to work on the layout now that I have expanded the rolling stock fleet and the ground outside is white.

Thanks, Greg.

I purchased some trees in the past couple weeks and am planning some additional work on the scenery moving forward.
