Weathering the roof with powders , a bit too much , no not really , you'll see later.
Same roofs after a spray of Dullcoat. And some more photo's of the finished outside of the structure, still hoping to find a decent photo for the inside.

I love photo's, don't we all.

Okay , I edited the photo's and saw them at least 5 times each and didn't notice one of the walls was upside down, have to fix it tomorrow.

Now that's funny.....don't feel bad, I've almost done that a couple of times myself (luckily caught it before it was glued).....and I'm a builder..... ;D ;D ;D

I guess the door at the top of the wall was a dead give-a-way.

Yeah , the little people complained they couldn't get in. Fixed it this evening, all it took was a very sharp razor blade.

Nice job. I thought that once the walls were glued together you were kind of stuck (no pun intended). What kind of glue do you use? I use Titebond 3 for my wood-to-wood interfaces. I wonder if it matters.....

I use Deluxe Materials Super Phatic Glue , it bonds wood , but also plastics and other materials, unlike normal wood glue it has capillary action . In-spite of it gluing very well you can cut it with a razor blade , you just have to be careful to stay right in between the 2 glued surfaces. You only need a tiny bit of the glue and if you spill a little it's easily taken away with a cotton swab.

That  will teach you to work in a scale that you cannot see! ! ! ! !

There is a reason that I am not an N scaler.

Not all of us have skads of room for HO

Oh , I have plenty of room , but I'd rather build my N-scale Empire in it then Diorama's  ;)

Just found this thread. Build(s) look great - can you give some more details on how you finished/weathered the rolled roofing? (or did you cover it and I just missed it? )

Thanks!

I use powders , in this case some moss green and brown colored ones , just brush some on from top to bottom. Then  ( found this out by chance ) I fixate it with a spray can of Humbrols Hobby Spray Varnish , I don't know if it's the brand I use or something else but it always gets that white faded look, I love it so I'm looking for a new can of the stuff. Seems the replacement is Acrylic Varnish matt from Humbrol, just hoping it has the same effect.

Thanks. The result looks great - mine always end up looking like I stuck a bunch of strips of construction paper to the roof!

I'm not familiar with Humbrols Spray Varnish but the "white faded look" you describe sounds like it's coming from some sort of reaction between the surface and the flattening agent (typically talc) that's in the "clear" varnish.
The guys who weather modern era freight cars use a similar reaction between Dullcote and alcohol to produce the "whitening" faded effect. I might have to experiment with that a little.

Thanks again!

Jan,

Nice job on the model and I really like the results on the roof.
