Thank you for posting the details on the Lexan.  I just did a quick check on amazon and the prices are all over the map.  This is the stuff I bought for my control panels.  Only mine was 1/8 inch thick.  I have some areas where I'm going to have to spend the money to protect the models.

Tom, Once upon a time I lived in Escondido, Ca on a golf course, which is north of San Diego.  My windows that faced the golf course were made out of Lexan because I got tired of replacing the windows with glass.

Tom, Up here in NH it shows $93 but only 30"x 36" expensive. Look's good though......... Dennis

Dennis,

Yep, prices vary and I could have saved more by going through the internet but couldn't send it back if scratched.

I just chalked up my $206.00 purchase as another layout investment.

Now you're going to have to deal with fingerprints all over that nice clean Lexan.   :D  Not sayin' who might do such a dastardly deed but there will be no denying it when you lift them and run them.  ;D ;D

The trees and structures are protected!  Great job!

Bob,

I ordered some static free plastic cleaner but never thought about someone's fingerprints. I guess I need to load my 9mm just in case. And, as I spent 6 years in the CSI Section, running and comparing latents will also work.

Hey Tom:

the facia looks great and should for what it costs. Also like the building and scenery behind it.

It looks awesome Tom. Are you going to put something on the top where 2 sheets meet to keep them uniform?

Curt,

Thank you. No they fit very nicely as you will see next time you come over. Maybe this Saturday?

Looks great Tom!  Now this section of the layout is protected from any human "hurricanes" that might come through!

Mark,

Thank you, much appreciated. Notice I waited until you and Charlie visited prior to putting up the Lexan?

ACL 1504,
Tom...  man! I absolutely enjoy visiting your thread to see your progress on your layout.  You are truly a master modeler in every sense one can describe. You are without a dubious explicate of lofty inspiration my friend.

I've got to get off my phat arse and get way down there to witness this awe inspiring layout soon-real soon.  Keep doin' yur mission bro.  Love the work, love the work!  Thanx Thom... P.S. now where did I put my libation at???

Brother Thommy,

Thank you for the kind compliment on my layout and work. Let me be the first to say you are becoming quite the "ink slinger" with yur fancy wordsmithing. Keep it coming bro! 8)

John,

You are very welcome my friend. Although the Lexan was pricey, I figured my time in repairing and replacing trees was justification for the money spent. I'll call it insurance for an expensive hobby.

Steve,

I can believe it. After so many "smash and grabs" businesses here in Orlando started replacing the window glass with half inch Lexan.

I have a area on the middle isle where there will be street running. I was going to use Trains of Texas Hydrocal street material until Walthers cornerstone came out with street brick material.

The street is a real 1:1 4 feet 9 inches in length.  Last year I painted the rails but not the ties. No ballast was added to this section of track either.

The track was cut/unsoldered and removed.

This set of feeders will be moved to just north of the brick street.

I'll spray paint the brick sheets with Floquil Oxide Red and when dry, highlight it with Floquil Southern Freight Car Brown and Zinc Chromate Primer. And, when that is dry, I'll follow with a light A&I black and street stains.
