I finished the water late last night. Late for me means I was still in the train shed a little past 9PM.

I bragged about no bubbles in my Mod Podge; however, this morning I found a few here and there. These bubbles were in the portion I finished last. I think I got tired and rush the last half hour. I asked Pam to look and she didn't see any bubbles. I, on the other hand was looking for them and found a few.

Anyway, here is how it looked mid morning today. I'll have to rethink doing a second coat unless I make myself do it very slowly.

On a forum far far removed, we had a build contest. I think it was probably some 10 years ago or so, don't really remember.

I scratch built a small two story structure and called it the Four Aces Wrecking and Salvage. I remember pulling the sign off Ebay.

This will be the perfect small structure for this space. It will of course have to be removed from the 4X4 inch base.

More in a few.

The structure comes off the sub base easily enough but the rest will require some keen surgery skills.

This was a fun build and since it was a contest I detailed the interior.

I added full wainscoting to the walls, and added strip wood to the interior side of the windows. I used thin brass wire for the curtain rods. The oval rug is a paper cut out. The desk is a SS Ltd. casting.

Diet Pepsi time, back in a few.

I'll need to remove one tree so I'll have more room for the salvage yard. I wet the area around the tress and after 15 minutes used a small putty knife to remove the tree.

Now I have a little more room.

I'll need to make a few repairs to the structure. I got moved around several times during the past 10 years.

Not sure I can get the sub base off without damage. I'll either make another one or put this structure on brick piers. A decision to make in the next few weeks.

Track side view of the original 4 inch diorama.

Done for this fine evening.

Oh, one last thing. With this last photo, I just went over the 5,400th photo posted on the entire thread.

Tom;

I had some time tonight to catch up on the progress. All I can say is impressive. Learned a lot. The buildings Frank made will fit in perfect and the little salvage yard is great. I think the river scene came out fantastic. I have bookmarked this to come back to when I make the Silver Springs scene. Thanks for sharing. A lot of work went into this area and the results show it.

The river looks great Tom. For those of us here watching the Mod Podge chronicles, I found that I could "clean up" bubbles pretty well with some paint touch up between coats...it actually added a nice "depth" effect, in my estimation. I also felt like the "foam" looked good around the rocky outcroppings, where the water would be aerated by the waves hitting the rocks and swirling around...This is what I excel at - rationalizing my messes with explanations found in nature  ;D

Hey Tom:

You never cease to amaze me. The layout looks just beautiful. Love that 4 Aces sign. Great modeling as always.

Hey Tom,

Nice structure and the detailed scenery is great.

How about cutting a square hole in to the table and placing the structure in the hole? Possible? Or, and I think this would be more difficult, slice the base to make it thinner. Perhaps a band saw would work to do that.

Jim,

Thank you for taking the time to read all this stuff. Thank you as well for the generous compliment and I'm happy you were able to get something out of the thread.

Frank did a fantastic job on the structures. I'll be working on them later this week.
