You know Tom, that is oneway to clean out your junk drawer and place it on your layout in a junk yard.  This came out very nice Tom.

Steve,

Hey, long time no see. Appreciate your compliment and your post, thank you. I had more in the yard but didn't like the look. I'll be adding a few more details but they will be smaller. The yard is to clean looking at present.

Hello Tom, I'm enjoying watching your salvage yard come together, you are doing your usual fine job.   Jeff

Jeff,

Thank you kind sir. The salvage yard was fun to do and it helped that I already built the structure some 8-10 years ago. I also had the chain link fence from an older layout of mine.

Yesterday, I didn't get much done but it took me several hours to not get much done.

I decided to paint the area of the facia around the south end of Tahope and across the river.

While that was drying I had a Forrest Gump moment. I thought as long as I have the paint on the roller, I may as well do a little more on the facia. When I got to the roundhouse facia, I thought, heck may as well go around and down the other side.

More in a few.

While the first coat of fascia paint was drying, I fixed the entrance portion of the salvage yard. Basically I just leveled the dirt from the highway into the yard.

I then painted the second coat of green paint on the center idle fascia.

And while that was drying I cut a piece of clear Lexan and screwed it to the fascia. This will prevent visitors from reaching in and possibly breaking one of the structures near the layout edge.

I then added a small towel bar so the Judge will have something to grab to assist him in getting up out of the judicial chair.

Done for today in posting to the thread.

Hello Tom, it's looking really good. Your train room is just about as crowded as mine.

Wow that fresh paint looks great! That's on my list too. I just know that with an hour's work, I can make a radical improvement to the appearance of the whole layout (particularly as mine is upper and lower). Nice job! It's that first step that seems to elude me :o

Looks great Tom. Also neat and organized. We plan on moving into independent living in two years and I have to start "getting organized."  Jim

An other advantage of painting facia is to show us somes pictures of part of the layout that we don't have see for a while.... and we love pictures .

Jeff,

Thank you. Yes, the train room is full of stuff. I have more paint than I need, more kits than I can build, more locos than I can run and more rolling stock than will fit on the layout. And, I still have more stuff than I need.  :-X

John,

Thank you. I could have painted the fascia a few years ago. It only took a couple of hours but it did in fact change the look of the layout.
