Looks good Tom. Interesting that the pit is darker so it doesn't try to imitate concrete color. Are you going to paint the pit before you redo all the tracks? Hopefully I can get down to see it in a couple of weeks.

Curt,

Thanks for stopping by. Yea, this pit is a dark grey where as the old one was an aged concrete color. I'll weather this one some but not a lot. Walthers attempts to discourage painting the pit and table. They advise it may interfere with the computer under the bridge and electric eye.

I'll do some chalk weathering at best. Saturday November 10 or 17 will be fine for coming by. You know where I'll be.

Tom, you are a braver man than me, cutting cork with a blade.  I prefer to use my rail nippers.
Your work continues to amaze me.

You can't do "Greg Speed" on the Turntable. :o :o :o :o

Tom - I like the new turntable pit.  I think you can weather it and make it look better than the old one.  Lots of grease, oil and sand (Florida sand) along with some rather flat bits of trash that might have fallen off of a Pacific.  We will have fun being hostelers and moving steamers into the round house Saturday.

Jim,

Even if Greg wanted to go "Greg Speed" on the turning of the turntable, he can't. The turntable is geared to move at a snails pace. We'll call this "Tom Speed".

Bill, AKA: Judge,

The pit is in place and tracks are secure. However, the tracks aren't wired yet. Will explain tomorrow.

A few pages ago I showed how I removed a left hand turnout for a right hand one.

I made a big mistake later. I neglected to paint the rails and weather the ties PRIOR to ballasting.

In the photo below, it is now done. I spent three hours and used a small brush to paint the rails and then paint and weather the ties.

It only took just over three hours to do the 36 inch section along with the turnout.

And, I'm happy to report no paint got on any of the ballast.

The roundhouse, turntable and all of Tahope will be on separate wiring circuits.

To set this up and make it more easy to install and trouble shoot, I installed a plywood panel under the layout.

I also installed a small LED light on one of the cross braces.

More in a few.

Microbrushes work great for painting rail.

Dave,

I used a Floquil 0000 brush for the rail and a Floquil 00 for the ties.

All the roundhouse LEDs were wired to the wiring panel.
