As you can see in the two photos below, the walls fit on the side and on top of the 4X12s. You can also see the doorways are flush with the floor.

The kit comes with some plastic brick strips. I won't be using them as the 4X12's will serve as a concrete foundation and will be painted Aged Concrete. The 4X12's also give me a little room to add scenery next to the structure.

For some extra support for the floor piece, I added two 12X12 pieces.

I worked on several different projects today. Here is the latest update on the Erie Cafe.

I glued the flooring (paper pattern) to the floor. The wall location at the rear of the cafe is where it fits on the pattern.

Tom,

Looks very nice thus far.  As usual I'll be looking in to see what I can learn this time.

Jerry,

Thank you, appreciate you following along on the build.

I spent some time today working on the rear interior wall.

Several years ago I found some Award Paper with a faux pattern and though it would make great wallpaper some day. Today is that day.

I'll cover this wall and the others with the paper.

This will be a faux wallpaper for the restaurant interior walls.

I cut three pieces of the paper to fit the height of the rear wall.

I used transfer tape and placed the cut paper over the tape. I then trimmed the door and small service window using a new #11 X-Acto blade.

I noticed the paper color was very close to Polly Scale D&RGW Building Cream.

I painted the door jams and service window sides with the D&RGW cream color.

I also painted a piece of HO scale 1X4 with the cream colored paint.

I used the scale 1X4 to trim the three door openings as well as the service window.

I'm not sure that 100% of the rear wall and door trim will be seen by visitors. I wanted to make the door opening plausible so the trim was added. At least I'll know it was done.

Menu board and Coke/Pepsi signs added later.

I also noticed the floor was slightly warped.

I previously glued bracing to the bottom but realized they were glued with the grain and not against it. I initially used 8X8s for the first bracing.

I removed small pieces of the current bracing and added HO scale 12X12s and glued them in placed against the wood grain.

Coming along nicely Tom, can't say I ever heard of this kit manufacturer , looks like a well put together kit. I know what you mean about trying to divide hobby time between kit building and layout work, haven't been at my layout for well over a year.

Lynn,

Thank you, much appreciated. Jim Harr started Stella Scale Models around 2008 or 2009. He only produced a few models and then started building models on a professional level for others.

Stella was the name of his Golden Retriever.

I try to move from kit building to layout building with some scenery work in the middle of it all.

The instructions suggest gluing all the walls together prior to any painting. The instructions don't call for any bracing put states it is pretty much solid after the walls are glued in place.

Of course I didn't follow this line of thinking for obvious reasons. A structure this size will definitely need wall bracing.

Normally I brace walls prior to staining or painting. However, since I'm including the interior detail and added a back wall, I wasn't sure where I needed to add the braces.

I did stain the walls with Hunterline A&I Light Gray. Of course the walls did warp as expected.
