Hi Tom,

The building looks great Tom, but may I make a suggestion and do some more weathering on the roof.  The black color looks to uniform and might be weathered as you did the walls.

Tom,

I hadn't noticed until Steve mentioned it, but I agree some chalk weathering would make the roof look a little better.  While you're at it, how about a brass wire handle on that roof hatch?  I keep wondering how "Roger the repairman" is going to get down from the roof.   These are really small items when taking into account how fantastic the structure is with such a wonderful interior scene.  I think anyone would be more than proud to have this on their layout.

Steve,

I knew something was missing. I was thinking of a weathered roof and forgot all about doing it.

Anyway, it is done and will post a photo at the end of the thread.

Jerry,

I forgot all about finishing the roof. I already started another build and just simply forgot to add the roof weathering. My repair guy can just lift the hatch. ;D ;D

I did add a handle for his convenience though. Thanks for the suggestion. I try to think of everything but "senior moments" happen all to often these days.

Photo to follow.

Steve and Jerry made a couple of great observations and I agree.

I added a small handle to the top of the roof hatch and weathered the roof.

I dry brushed Floquil Antique White and SP Dark Grey to the roof. I then added just a touch of burnt sienna pastel chalk.

The weathering was added from front to rear as this is how the roof is slopped.

Nice touch with the roof A/C , my son is an Hvac guy, I'll see if he has time to jump up on the roof.
The chimney's look great, whats your technique? I struggle with chimney colors.

Lynn,

Thank you for the kind compliment. I think I have an AC guy on the roof now.

Chimneys are very easy.

I used the stock chimneys that came with the kit. I added a white wash for the mortar and let dry. The next day I simply dry brushed on some Floquil Freight Car Brown. Any brown or dark red color will do. The key is to dry brush the brick color so it doesn't get into the mortar lines. I then dip the entire chimney into the Hunterline Light Gray A&I. Set aside to dry on a napkin or paper towel. I painted the inside of the chimney and top with flat black.

Easy peasy.

Thanks Tom for the instructions, before I had read them I had the same thoughts in mind to try to think lie an artist, work back to front. I had originally painted them Kaki along with the rest of the castings and then went back yesterday and primed them a white but still found it was difficult to get the primer in the grout lines and didn't want to go too heavy on the brick faces. I then went back with an acrylic off white acrylic wash and the grout lines covered well. I will now follow the rest of your instructions on them.
Nice finishing touch with the Hvac guy on the roof and the weathering although subtle completes the build nicely.  :)
