Dockside Crane

My new Norwegian layout will have several nautical features, so I thought a dockside crane should be built.
I am building a Dapol dockside crane. There are couple of riders with the kit - not suitable for children under 10 years old - so I qualify there .
Dapol kits are the old Airfix kits of my youth - Dapol state "The tools used to produce this model are over 50 years old - the moulded numbers on the parts may not match those used in the instructions". A cursory look confirms this to be so................

The four legs needed glueing to the platform. After deciding I needed five hands to successfully glue this together I deployed my clamps. I do not have big clamps like some other guys on the forum but they worked in the end.

The platform sits on the top and revolves nicely.

I decided to spray the cabin walls another colour other than grey.

There are stanchions to be placed on the platform. There was a fair bit of flash on the mouldings that had to be cleaned off.
There is no railing provided with the kit but I will have to figure that out later.

Great job so far. Maybe something like Phosphor Bronze wire from Tichy? It comes in different gauges and stiffness.

I used the old rattle can to spray paint the main platform and leg assembly.

I glazed the shed windows with acetate.......

The back wall on the shed needs to be open for the cable to pass through. So I de-glazed that window .
The grey arms assembly has a spindle that needs to turn freely. Given the age of the kit, the holes needed reaming out and flash removed from the spindle.

The railing is applied. I hate CA especially all over the fingers. I found some wire. It was not the stuff I was going to use but I cannot find it among my stash (AKA mess)!

The crane looks good, I often use CA for styrene but what really works well and bonds in seconds is MEK .
