Howdy Mark,

Seeing a group of modelers having fun is fantastic.  Thanks for the photos.

The Magnuson models look terrific in the raw.  The layout is coming together well.

Have fun,
mike

Also nice to see the layout getting populated with your builds.

Thanks, Rick.

I have the winter challenge build set up now.  While working on the next section of trackbed conversion from ceiling tile and polystyrene sandwich to 16mm MDF it kept catching my eye.  It really feels like another big chunk of real estate completed.

Cheers, Mark.

Lots more to come!  I still have a long list of updates I need to make.

Thanks, Mike.

Its a great group of friends.  Four of the five of us went over to Melbourne recently for the Australian narrow gauge convention.  That was a lot of fun!  We shared a house with another three friends from Wellington.  It was several days of train chaos!

I like the Magnuson kits.  They bash very well.

Cheers, Mark.

Hi guys.

Photo 1 - A view from the front.  You can see I have added a 0.5mm styrene roof to my truss profiles for the curved roof.  The curve was not circular, and so I opted to cut out several styrene truss profiles and glue these to the flat roof.  The whole roof assembly is still removable

Photo 2 - A view from the other end.  I think this roof really makes the structure quite unique.  Worth the extra effort.  I cut some short pieces of square tube and glued these on as decoration.  I added caps to the top ones.

Photo 3 - A view from the back.  I had to guess what the roof design did back here.  I opted to run sloped roofing around the back.

Photo 4 - A view from the end.  You can see I have added putty and cleaned off the excess.  I always add painters' tape down both sides of the seam when doing this to keep the mess to a minimum.  It makes it far easier to get the putty where you want it.

Things are almost ready for painting.  I'm hoping to get this block of shops washed and primed before Thursday so I can start on the painting process.  I bought a fantastic book at our 'book barn' for $12, recently.  It is on the history of the villa in New Zealand and has some great shots of historical paint schemes.  I'm sure it will come in handy – perhaps very soon...

Photo 5 - The inspiration for the curved roof design.  From 'The Compleat Cityscapes by David McGill & Grant Tilly.

More soon, cheers, Mark.

I remember when you sketched that out, it came out nicely.  And a nice job with the turret, that's a bit of a challenge to get a good fit with all those angles.

Rick

That's a very unique roof that I don't recall seeing being modeled before.
Great job.

Thanks, Dave.

Yep - the turret walls were not cut at the correct angles.  Making up styrene floors and a sub roof was the key to getting it right.  That and putty.

Cheers, Mark.

That's what I thought!  When I first saw that picture I filed it away in my mind as a 'must do someday' project.  Then when I started working on this Magnuson bash I went searching for the picture pinned to a polystyrene prop on the peninsula.  Perfect!  I thought...

Cheers, Mark.
