Tom, great work with the pictures and thanks for posting them. The layout section off the forum is really filling up with some great layouts.

Andy,

Thanks for your comments. The layout tours section is starting to look better and better.

Here are a few more photos of Cliff Power's layout. I've noticed some of the photos look a little "yellowish". I use the Auto Color Correct when cropping the photos. I need your opinion. The next three photos are with the Auto Color Correct with Sharpen and the last two (total of five) photos are without the Auto Color Correct. Can you tell a difference or is it me? I can change the red, blue or green but no the yellow.

Certainly I'm not a professional photographer but I want Cliff's layout to look correct with respect to the scenes and his fantastic craftmanship! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm using Irfanview for the photo program.

These next two photos are shown without the Auto Color Adjustment.

I'll post more photos later this evening.

Tom,

Beautiful photos. You could work for a magazine. Personally, I think the last two photos look more natural, but there is only a slight difference between them. I would be interested in knowing what the temperature of the lights are that Cliff used. Any idea what Cliff used? The bulb color/temperature is very important for good photogrphy and it looks like cliff nailed it. Or maybe it is your wonderful photography!

Frank,

Thanks for the input. It appears that my Auto Color Adjust adds a little yellow to the photo. I like the non-auto photos as well. I don't know what Cliff uses for his lights but you are correct in that he nailed the lighting issue. Trust me, it's not my wonderful photography! On a side note my auto color adjustment worked perfectly on Howard Zane's photos so I'm guessing it is a difference in the light temp or light lumens.

Maybe Cliff can help you here.

When and If he lets me go back I'll be taking my 35mm digital camera with tripod instead of the Sony Cybershot!

Thanks again Frank! I hope you are staying out of the heat.

Here are more photos from Cliff Power's beautiful Magnolia Route. I figured out the Magnolia Route must be called this due to the millions of magnolia tress I saw in Mississippi!

I love this next little scene. It reminds me of Vandalia, IL. where my mother grew up. She had relatives that lived in houses looking just like these. We sat on the porch swing many a summer day. I never got to liking the out house though.

We even bought a whole bag of candy for .19 at a store like this!

This is one beautiful pine forest!

Tom.......

Are you using photo shop?

see ya
Bob

Bob,

Sorry, I didn't see your post! No, no photo shop. For the photo loading and cropping I'm using Irfanview. I've tried Picasa (sp) and one other but I like this one best. I've come to realize the lumens of the bulbs in the lights will dictate the captured color of the image. I guess that makes sense. Cliff, I believe, has all fluorescent lights on the layout. I neglected to ask!

I mentioned at the beginning of the thread my photos wouldn't do the layout or Cliff's beautiful craftmanship justice. I feel bad as Cliff deserves the correct color representation of his work.

On my layout I use Phillips Cool White with an output of 3200 Lumens and a color temperature of 4100K. I also have these lights reflect off the ceiling. This gives me ambient lighting.

Hope this addresses your thoughts.

I wanted to show ya'll the rest of this beautiful southern pine forest but I got to much of the light reflection in the photo. If I cropped the photo to remove the lights I would only be able to show the bottom half of the forest. Notice how Cliff has also taken the utility poles and wire along the track and out of the picture/scene. This is what is wonderful about his layout, nothing has been left out.

This next photo is much better in showing the track and poles. Notice also the fascia in that it isn't just straight along the layout edge? It has a very subtle pattern as opposed to being straight like most layouts!

I took about a dozen shots of the bridge over the Jourdon River. I wanted to get all the little details! I'll show eight of them here.

Continuing with this great looking bridge. I've seen many a bridge like this one while traveling the South!

I'll post more later in the week. Thanks for following along on the Magnolia Route.

I love looking at Cliff's stuff. You have done a great job showing it off so far Tom. I would love to see it in person someday. I'm also looking forward to when you get to the sawmill portion.  :) :)

Dustin,

You are very welcome. The sawmill is just around the corner! Cliff's Magnolia Route is absolutely a layout you should see. Seeing it will cause you to be speechless when you enter the layout room. That, in my humble opinion, is better than the WOW factor.

Tom...

The reason I asked about photoshop is that they have a very easy to use color balance toggle.  I wonder if yours doesn't have something similar lurking in the back ground.

I'm not up to speed on what you are using.

Bob,

Thanks for the input. My program does have an auto adjust color feature. I'm guessing the results depend on the the color capture of the camera.
