Another great build and build thread from you Tom!

Dan,

Thank you. I'm getting ready for the 2021 Build Challenge.

Tom ;D
Glad to hear that! I'm getting the rally flags out to peak some interest. I'll get it moving in about a month!😁

Dan,

I'm ready and have narrowed down my choices to three. One of which will get built.

I'm in, if I can figure out which kit to build.....although, at the rate I'm progressing on Cooper's Garage, I probably should have started the challenge back in May.  ;)

Greg,

We all love this hobby and building kits. However, we also know that 1:1 things come first. You can always finish a kit later.

I'm sure most of you noticed the notch on the soffit board in a previous photo. If not,  here it is.

It was necessary for me to cut this in order for the steeple walls to fit square. This was the same problem Bob Dye found when he built his version of the River Bend church.

The problem is that when the corner trim is added to the steeple wall, W6, it makes the wall to wide to fit properly.

Here is how it looks with the corner trim in place. Out of square. I always test fit walls prior to gluing them in place.

With the trim and without the corner trim shown below. Either way, the wall won't fit squarely and flush against the side wall.

I braced the wall (W6) per the diagram. This corner trim isn't necessary. I had to carefully remove the corner trim from my W6 wall.

I'm going to get a Diet Pepsi, be back in a second.

With the corner trim removed and the notch cut into the soffit board, the steeple walls are now square.

However, these walls won't be glued in place until the right side wall is glued in place.

The right side wall was test fit and then glued in place. I made sure it was square to the rest of the structure.

As the glued dried, I made sure that the structure was flat. I didn't want to run the chance the newly added wall, while the glue dried, pulled it out of square and not completely flat/level.

When the side wall was glued in place, I added the steeple walls to complete all the main walls.

I made sure the walls in the corner were flush an square to each other. I then checked the level of the top of the steeple walls and then added a small top weight while the glued dried. Also, the steeple walls were clamped tight while the glue dried. In the second photo, the clamps were added after level of the steeple was checked.

I also added a ridge beam to support the roof.

Now, all the main structure walls are in place. I can now proceed with the rest of the additions I have planned for the church.

Done for the day.
