I never use them.  Consider microscope slides and covers.

Did you ever notice how many towns are named after their water towers ! ?

Keep It Rusty

I think IPA works.

That said, at Hobby Lobby they sell packs of letter-sized acetate labeled "Clear Film" — get the .007 thickness and never worry about fogged acetate again.

Costco mini cinnamon buns are separated by a perfect clear acetate sheet perfect for windows and snacking on.

I have found 99%IPA (isopropyl Alcohol) works the best. 70% not so much.  I dip a Q-tip in and wipe it clean.  Works great for evitable fingerprints as well. I also find cleaning them on a Blue paper Shop towel works better than normal paper towels as the lint factor is way down.

If you are looking for nice clear sheets to work with than I recommend Dura-lar film from Graphix. Comes in a couple of thicknesses and has a tissue sheet attached to keep one side clean. A pad should keep you in windows for a lifetime.

Amazon has it for about $13 per pad of 25 sheets

Grafix P05DC0912 DURALAR Clear .005 9X12 25PGS, 25 Sheets

If you want to make lots of panes the same size then these cutters are great for paper, Dura-lar and other thin materials.
I can definitely recommend the Carl ones

I'd imagine the acetate would be too crunchy for a suitable snack  ;D
