ACL1504

I removed all the track spikes from the track to be removed and then wet the track and turnouts.

I let it sit for about 20 minutes. I then used a putty knife and lifted the track from the ballast. It can up with no problems.

The ballast between the ties is wet and loose. I took the turnout and using the pressure nozzle on the hose removed the ballast. It came off very easily.

I was able to say all but a few inches of the track. The few inches I couldn't save is where I cut the track from the "not to be removed track". I then unsoldered the track from the permanent track.

Diet Pepsi time, back in a few.

Fast forward and all track, ballast and pink foam was removed.

In the next photo you can see where the track curved to the center of the layout. Now all that area is open for many more structures. The new track will run down the edge.

More on that tomorrow.

Greg,

Yes, I have been. While I'm on a roll I'm taking advantage of my new found energy. Covid-19 kicked me pretty hard as you know. Hopefully this is the start of the real recovery.

I lay some track in place to get an idea of how much room it gave me. This arrangement seems to be the best.

I needed to remove the inside track to make room for the apartment building.

Once that was decided, the track was removed and I added the cork road bed.

I used a black marker to mark my center line and then glued the roadbed on place.

If you are interested in how I make the roadbed fit the turnout you can read it here. It's in Part 3 on pages 9 and finishes on page 10.

Now the new track is in place and I have much more room for structures. This track plan change has really opened up more possibilities for Tahope Buildings.

The track looks crooked in the upper right, it's not. The ties are missing between the soldered rail and it does look bad in the photo.

Done for today.

You have to admire the movers and shakers of Tahope.....when it comes to more tax revenue from a mixed use development, they can more pretty fast getting all the approvals passed and the permits issued.  ;D
