I love those little freebies.  :D  This one will look great in Tahope.   ;)

There's a fine line between Hobby and Mental Illness.

Way behind on what's been reported.

Pencil shavings:  Good source for scrap metal loads.  Glue together, paint a metallic, and perhaps some rust if it's not a chrome-alloy metal you're handling. Borings and turnings loads.

What a cool little kit. Love that Doug does this.
Can't wait to see the shop! Maybe it should be called "Between the Rails"?

Craig,

This is a nice little kit. Doug does the free kit offer several times a year. I don't  have them all but then again no need to have a kit you can't use.

"Tween the Rails" is good. This one however, is Doug's signage of Polk's Hobby shop.

You have to admire the movers and shakers of Tahope.....when it comes to more tax revenue from a mixed use development, they can more pretty fast getting all the approvals passed and the permits issued.  ;D

Greg,

The  movers and shakers of Tahope don't do anything unless you "grease"  some palms in the permitting department.  The more grease, the faster the process.  :(

Tom  ;D

Kind of sounds like the shenanigans that go on down in Miami..... :)

Greg,

I'm very confident it happens all over the globe.  :-X

Jerry,

Thank you. Yes, it will fit perfectly in the spot just "Tween the Tracks".

Bob,

The freebies are a very nice touch from Doug. Excellent marketing tool as well.

Thank for the comment. Happy you made it back safely.

Larry,

Always happy to have you visit no matter the length of the absence.

Great idea on the pencil shaving. I just may have to try it one day.

Okay, here is my disclaimer. I got busy on this build yesterday and today and neglected to take many photos along the way. So, I'll try to fill in as I go.

The side walls are thick cardstock and the rear wall is wood.

I braced the side walls and then used white glue to glue the signs to the sides. Since the side walls are basically paper and the glue is water based you can guess what happened. Yep, the walls curled as the glue dried. This only took a few minutes.

I should have added some horizontal bracing prior to gluing on the sign. I'm gonna blame this on Covid-19. As I tell Pam when she asks me something I respond, "I didn't do it".

More in a few.

I then added some 10 X 10 bracing horizontally to the two side walls. Weights were added until the glue was dry.

Much better now.

These two pieces are part of the front wall. I painted them with full strength Floquil G.W. Cream.

I painted the rear door the cream color and the door trim with Floquil GN Gray Green.

I glued the front window and door together and added the clear Mylar/Acetate for the glass. I then cut out and glued the interior photo to the rear of the door and display window.

Here is where no pictures were taken when putting it all together. The outer front wall was painted with Floquil GN Gray Green. The exterior paneling on the lower front window was painted with Tamiya Desert Yellow.

Here is how the front wall looks with everything in place.

I added the small push bar to the door and painted it silver.

I used the back side of an Emory Board and lightly sanded the top sign and the front walls.

This is the first build where I've used the paper doors and windows. I usually recut the wall in order to fit Tichy doors and windows.

I used the same Emory Board sanding for the two side wall signs.

Done for today.

DANG IT, Tom!
Polk's was a hardware store in northwest DC when I was growing up.
Now 70+ years later I can't recall in they sold Lionel stuff or not. I tend to think so based on the number of times my Dad went there, but it's one of those nagging questions that keeps you awake all night trying to recall details. Next thing you know, you'll be brining up the name of the three retail store wide hobby shop in downtown DC whose name I can't recall either. But it literally had "everything" I DO remember.
Two nights of insomnia! What's an old guy to do?
Working on my second million. I gave up on the first.
