QuoteBernd,

We measured it from an Athearn 40' boxcar. However, we made ours 41' just to be different.

Width is 10 HO scale feet and thickness is 1/4".

We made four. I still  have mine but when Jim passed it wasn't in his train stuff. I think he gave the other two away for a prize at one of the NMRA Sunshine Region meets here in Fl. Jim was in the Sunshine Region for 45+ years. I joined the NMRA back in 1972 for one year and had my fill. Since then I've been a GDI - Gosh Darn Independent.

The reason I asked is that I could make some up for those who want one. I have a cabinet table saw. I would just need to order some 1/4" thick acrylic plastic.

Sign me up for one in HO, and one in HOn30.  Of course, the latter does beg a question about the dimensions for an HOn30 item.  And for the HO item, should the length be just 40' standard boxcar, or would this be more useful if it was the length of your longest car (where it could also be used for clearance)?

I would use the dimensions of a 3' narrow gauge car for HOn3, an HOn2 narrow gauge car ala Maine Two Footers for dimensions. After all you're not going to run a 40-foot car on a foot gauge line. Not unless it was a speiclaty built car.

As time permits, I'll update this build thread. When Jimmy shut down the forum some 3+ years ago, I continued the thread on the RR lines forum.

I say as time permits as I'm on a deadline for the 2024/2025 build challenge.

The area below is now complete and detailed.

I will show my step by step in completing this area.
