Good morning!  Nice pics!  I'll be cutting the grass today, then other errands will take up the rest of the day.

Morning,

The car is still waiting to be looked at. The lack of skilled labour is showing up in the car mechanic world.

Good morning! Coffee is on and I will be heading into the train room for awhile.  I need to get the grass cut between rain showers. It looks like it could rain any minute here this morning. I hope everyone has a great day.

Morning all.

John, what a stunning photo. Your layout is very impressive!

Didn't get any benchtime yesterday. Although I did start designing a new building for the laser. It's very fun!

Good morning - I have a question for those of you who have visited the FSM layout. George at one time had a scrap yard scene along the Northfield River in South Manchester. The building can be seen on the cover photo of the March 1990 issue of Model Railroader(orange/trimmed in blue - next to the work train crane and flat). In more recent photos it appears the scene has been removed. My question is was the building moved, repurposed or removed all together and does anyone have any photos of this building...thank for your help. Hope everyone has a great day....

Doug, whilst I don't have an answer for you, it was a great opportunity to focus on that part of the layout for a moment and, once again, appreciate George's talent.

Here is Mitchell's & Butlers from the official F&SM book, which sat right near your building/scrap yard in question (which you can see in the background):

And here is Tom/John's photo of the same area from a 2016 visit:

Not only have buildings changed, but roads have been paved, railroads removed altogether... notice how Mitchell's & Butlers has developed from a disused platform into a truck depot? It's amazing that it almost feels as though it has developed just as it would in real life. An untold story in itself.

Additionally, you may notice from the first photo that Mitchell's and Butlers was at the edge of the layout (can just see the black trim). Now look at this:

Quite amazing how much was added.

I posted recently about George's bravery as a modeler. He's not afraid of ripping up good work in order to forward himself and his layout. Aside from the sheer amount of detail and effort he's put in over the years, I think I appreciate his courage and sense of adventure the most.

Morning,
Always seeing old or new photos of the FSM makes a great start of any day.
Here's a photo of a built up Sunshine resin vinegar tank car that was posted on another forum a while back...like George's modeling...it's just fantastic work.

That is a stunning scene but it's not my layout.  It is from Galveston, TX and is in my file of photographs with great depth.  I went back and added a caption this morning but apparently moved on without hitting enter because it didn't get updated. Sorry for the confusion.

The North River area has seen many different changes over the years.  George expanded the area to make room for some of his prototype kit builds at one point.  Can you send me a picture of the building you are interested in and I will dive into the archives. I remember the junk yard but  need help with the actual building you are referencing.

To Craig's point there are areas on the F&SM with completely detail streets that you can not see from the aisle. Also, depending on your height, you will see a scene very differently as you walk around the layout.

Here's the best photo I have of the building in question.

Thanks for the follow up guys - you're right Craig - after pouring over photos of George's layout over the years not sure I would have the courage to rip out whole sections. But George does it seamlessly to the point that sometimes it's hard to tell where the older structures were.
