Springfield report

The 2022 Show is on!  (Jan. 29th & 30th, 2022)                                                                                    * Update as of 1.26.2022 *   The Amherst Railway Society is recommending that all visitors wear masks inside all buildings.  There is a prediction of snow for Saturday, but sunny and clear on Sunday.  Watch for further announcements as we get closer to the weekend.  Stay tuned!

Brrrrrr

It's going to be an adventure. If you see me there shivering severely, buy me a hot cocoa.

Later.

Morning all,

Have fun those of you attending the show this weekend.  :)  Wish I was going to be there.

This will clear your driveways!

Have a great one!

Morning, all

Nine below here this morning, but we'll break into double digits later.  Hope the possible nor'easter doesn't affect the show.  Some year, I've got to get there.

"Springfield" is the most accurate predictor of snow and winter weather in the entire New England region. If it's "Amherst Weekend" you are almost guaranteed winter weather will accompany the festivities. It also makes standing in the ticket lines more enjoyable.
Been there, done that.

Working on my second million. I gave up on the first.

Morning. I'll be at Springfield Saturday, I'll be the one eating a bowl of snow with maple syrup on it.

Good morning.

Single digit start to the day.  That's OK because my neighbor helped me put the chains on the tractor yesterday, so I have little reason to venture outside today.

Pretty much same old here...

Everyone have a safe and productive day!

Good Morning All

The light rain is continuing from yesterday. Got up this morning not feeling particularly well. I think after I drink a cup of coffee to warm up I'm going back to bed.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning! Have fun and stay safe at the show. Like Jeff - I need to get there one of these years.

It is Cold here, too.  We are burning lots of very expensive gas to keep this place warm. I hope everyone has a great day. From the F&SM.

Good morning!  A cool 13 degrees this morning, but sunny.  I'll be up at Springfield Saturday as well, maybe even Sunday.  Hope to see some of you there.

The snow estimates from the storm are kinda all-over-the-map.  For SE NH, I'm seeing 10" to 20".  But if I don't go Saturday, then I'll be constrained by having to clear all that snow from the driveway first thing Sunday, before I can drive to Springfield.

Last night I started gluing ends onto the boxcar frames.  My constraining resource is bar clamps, I use 4 to get good tight clamping on all 4 corners of the ends.  Another 4 bar clamps are on order.

Mornin' all...............

Wednesday is my day for zoom book groups and such.   A little bench time on both sides of that.

Dave....      The box cars are great...............

In the car business we called that making up of batches of stuff and finding ways streamline stuff... flat rating.   That was a commission pay structure for time allotments for this or that job based on tenths of an hour and how long it was generally agreed upon to get something done.    A lot of  customers didn't like the mechanism BUT....  if something took longer to do the customer paid the same.  Also..... if the car came back as not fixed........ The customer didn't pay again either.    In my years as service manager with Mercedes Benz, I did studies and for long term customers came out even on both sides.

How close is the total weight come out to NMRA standards ? ? ? ?

That is a very interesting construction method.................... thanx

see ya

Tom..........

I know that station well.

I had a girlfriend in the mid 60's while in college who lived in Decatur, Illinois.   Your dating of the photo is exactly when I would have been going through there.  I traveled down there often to see her.  Dearborn station always seemed to be a bit grungy compared to Union or the Northwestern stations.  They were of course much newer.  Maybe it was only that Dearborn was sort of dark, both in the waiting rooms and the platforms.

Thanx for  putting this up.
