ACL1504

The A&I stain will swell the wood. When dry I used an Emory board file to open some of the window openings.

I then test fit the windows and all fits as they should.

I decided to paint a green color on the bottom of the REA walls. I chose Floquil Weyerhauser Green for the bottom color.

I counted from the bottom up, nine  boards. These nine boards will be painted in the green. I didn't use tape to cover the top boards but chose instead to use a pointed brush for the work.

In the photo below, the two brushes on the right are the wrong type brushes to use for a project like this. The three on the left are perfect. Any one on the three will work. I chose the use the third brush from the left.

Note, I chose to also not paint the white on the walls first as the solvent in the green may soften the white and blend together. I don't want a lime green bottom.

I dipped the brush in the green and then in a clean thinner. This method thins the paint at the brush and you can then spread the thinned paint on the wall as shown below.

If you think you have to much paint on the wall, use a paper towel and wipe it horizontally across the wall.

Here is the finished wall section.

I forgot to mention a very important piece of information on the wall coloring.

If you are planning on having a two-tone wall, MAKE SURE THE WALL BOARDS ARE EVEN WITH EAVCH OTHER. Meaning the siding are all cut the same. The clapboards should all be level with each other around the structure.

I don't know who built the kit below and I'm not making fun of the build. I'm simply pointing out a fact as to how it looks with the lower color not matching the level of other walls. If you look at the green, you'll note that not all walls are painted with the color level.

This lack of attention to detail catches the eye more so than a bad build.

The clapboards and paint color should all be aligned properly.

Notice in the photo below, the white has yet to be added to the upper portion of the walls.

On the side of the main REA structure, there is a small loading dock. This loading dock is a pressed paper or thick cardboard. Vertical boards are to be glued to the three walls.

Here are two photos of the walls as shown in the instructions.

I wanted all my walls to be the same clapboard style so I used the paper walls as a template to make new clapboard walls.

I traced these three walls on the rear of the clapboard. I do this as it is easier to draw around the edges and certainly much easier to cut the flat wall section.

Fast forward here and the three walls were cut, stained, window test fit, nail holes added and the bottom color painted.
