ACL1504

I've been very neglect in posting to this thread.

When jimmy D., not our Jim D - the CEO, shut down the old Modelers Forum, I moved to RR Lines and have done an extensive build thread there on this kit.  I have 365 pictures to date there.

I just don't have it in me to redo the entire build thread here. What I will do here is post pictures that show the build in progress and will explain some issues I've had in the build.

Thank you all for your patience with this build.

Tom

During the build, I cleaned all the windows in warm soapy water to remove any plastic mold release agent.

When dry, I used a semi-stiff brush to stipple on some Floquil Reefer White paint.

It isn't necessary to cover the entire window. I left some gray showing as this looks like flaking or pealing paint.

When all the windows were painted, I set them or a paper towel to dry. I mention dry, as it takes Floquil a day or two to cure. Drying is dry to the touch and cure means the paint is totally dry.

Here is a close up of the stipple painted windows.

After the window paint has cured, I dipped them into Hunterline alcohol Light Gray A&I stain.

I then place the window face down on a paper towel to remove the excess A&I.

The light gray stain gives the windows a dirty look.

Done for today.

The next day I used Canopy Glue to make the window glass.

Tom nice job on those windows.  A good way to weather them.

Butty Bob,

Thank you, much appreciate you checking in on the build.

I've done the stipple brush method on my last three builds. I like the look.

The main REA building has a small sub assembly attached to the side. The assembly has cardboard sides and individual siding is to be painted or stained and then glued in place. See photos below.

I wanted this assembly to match the walls of the main REA building.

I used the cardboard walls as a template and cut my own walls out of the clapboard siding. I'll fast forward here and show you the walls were stained, painted, nail holes added and then window test fit.

I then glued the three walls together. I used a metal square and made sure the walls were at a 90 degree angle to each other.

I test fit it to the main building. Note how the bottom green trim matches the walls. I can't tell you how many models I've seen where the paints don't match. This is the first thing your eye will catch when viewing a model.

I decided, as an after thought, to light the interior of this small loading dock.  Since the dock door is open, I needed to make a fake wall to fit on the outside of the main structure.

Also, since I'm adding interior details and lights, I needed to add a floor.

To add the floor, I needed to carefully remove one wall so I could get to the bracing I needed to remove.

I chose to use 1/16" X 1/16" scribed siding for the floor.
