The chute castings look very real.  Excellent paint and rust job!

Hey Mike !

Great seeing your here!

First off, I'm happy you found this forum, Welcome. You'll note a great number of familiar suspects, including myself are now on board here. Many familiar name will pop up.

I was looking at the photos... just great craftsmanship. I'd always taken a liking to that structure from Sierra West. It fulfills a different theme than I can use for the North Coast Railroad, but its a gorgeous stricture none the less. Keep us posted.

Howdy Curt, you are off to a great start on the mine.  The bin structure is well executed and the coloring is spot on; really nice work.  Have fun, mike

Good Afternoon,

Thank you Larry, Ron, Mark, Rick, Jerry, Karl, Tom, Rich, Michael, Greg, Philip, Dave, and  Mike for following along, your comments and support. I'm humbled that so many people are following along.

The last couple of days were taken up by 1:1 things.

Today I got in the train room for a couple of hours. I built 2 sets of stairs after coloring the laser cut chip board. With that the build moves to the tipple house which sits on the base I've been building.

The interior framework is all laser cut so I did not need to build it board by board which surprises me based on how everything else is.

Next up is texturing and staining 35 pieces of 8" long strip wood. UGH!

Thanks for the welcome!

Curt,

Do you have a jig for building flights of stairs?  Yours turned out nice and straight.

Mike

Larry C

Curt great job on the stairs. What I do, be it scratch or kit building, is color
some of the wood at a time. This accomplishes two things; first cuts down being so tedious and
secondly I found, on the Wood Cutters Shack, Brett sometimes gets a little over zealous on the
amount of material really needed. Just a suggestion.

Looking good Curt.  Those stairs came out really nice.

Afternoon All,

Thank you Terry, Bob, Philip, Rick, Michael, Larry, and Jerry for following along along with your comments and suggestions.

Michael there was a thick cardboard jig provided with the kit for the stairs. I also have a resin jig that I have used many times. I believe this one is from Rusty Stunps but not sure.

Larry I actually prefer to do all the strip wood at one time.

This is the strip wood for the tipple house and hoist house.

I did the following to 35 pices of strip wood:

Grain it.
Brushed a Red/Brown powder followed by RA on both sides.
Brushed on Brick Red craft paint on one side.
Sanded strips with 220 grit sandpaper.
Brushed with Dark Yellow powder to reduce pinkish color after sanding.
Strips wiped off with fingers.
This is a sample of the finished product.
