Howdy folks,

I appreciate your support, Curt, Philip, Rick, Jerry, and Larry.  Rick, thanks for the photography tip.

I am almost finished laying track, but don't have photos to post.  A 24" siding and a 24" of mainline remain to be laid.  So far, everything is tracking and looking good.  I'll try to finish the gandy dancer work if I have time later.

Have fun,
mike

Howdy folks,

Yesterday, I finished laying the track for Phase I (main layout).  Next, I'll connect the electrical drops for the turnouts and track.

Here are a few photos that depict progress from west to east.

Mike, very nice.
Doing the electrical was never my favorite part either.
Looks like trains might be running soon.

Howdy folks,

This starts the water tower build thread that joins the maintenance shed. The tower is scratch-built from 3D castings, wood, and a few brass castings.

Here is a photo of a few parts.  I'll post dimensions later.  I don't have a sketch, it's all in my feeble head.

Great job on the track work Mike, looks professionally done.  The water tower is going to be an interesting build.

Howdy folks,

Ron, Curt, Larry, and Jerry, thank you for your comments and support.

The clamps are on the glued water tower base. I'll paint the interior dark brown and the exterior tan.  The stone paint will be similar to the Palitti Tannery colors.  The door and window were difficult to cut out.  FDM PLA is some tough stuff to cut.  I don't know why I didn't design the door and window into the print.  Lessons learned.

The tank core is complete and ready for wrapping in wood.  There is nothing exciting about the core, just that I was able size it to match the base.

Have fun,
mike

That's it for now.  I'm switching to the stock car while the glue dries.

Have fun,

Those walls came together really well Mike. I believe you said you 3D printed them?

Howdy folks,

Curt, I 3D printed them with a FDM printer using PLA filament.

The water tower base was in the clamps while the ACC glue dried. I used some old dollhouse cove molding (circa 1978) for corner reinforcement, although it was probably not needed with the interlocking sides.

Here is a photo of the tank wrapped in wood and sitting on the base.  It will get supporting rafters, etc.

...and a full frontal view.

I had intended to put a flat roof on the tank, but looking at it now I think it deserves a packed shingled roof.

Have fun,
mike
