Hello Mike, man, you're busy. The layout is coming along very nicely and I like the look of your lodge. Can't wait to see your stone color scheme.

Quote from: deemery on August 02, 2025, 01:46:48 PM I used epoxy for the main joints and Titebond for the corner reinforcements and crown molding.

I've used epoxy all around for stuff like this.  But I think the main joint is the wall-to-wall joint, so epoxy is the right choice there.  That's quite a convex bend in the wall in the top-down view, but it shouldn't be noticeable in the model once built.

Dave, thanks for your comment.  I think the camera exacerbated the bend, although the walls are not perfect. ~mike

Howdy folks,

Kyle, thanks for following.  Your painting of landscapes and backdrops is a big inspiration for me.  Thanks.

No photos today, I painted the interior of the Masonic Lodge pale blue.  The exterior is still a bit tacky so will need to wait for it to dry before painting it.

I started with scenery on the layout.  I think I'll finish the upper level before starting on the structures and the lower level.  I haven't used flocking in a while, so I'm getting the hang of it again.  I need to 3D print some succulents for the landscaping, too.  Having lots of fun.

Maybe photos tomorrow.

Have fun,
mike

The building looks great Mike.  Looking forward to the start of the real scenery!

Howdy folks,

Jerry, thank you for the compliment.  I'm having so much fun that I keep switching back and forth between the layout and lodge.

Here are a few shots of the lodge.  I finalized the color of the windows (Vallejo Union Blue) and painted them in the booth.  I had a problem with the Iwata, so I went back to the trusty Paasche.  I found the problem in the Iwata, a clogged tip. A couple of turns with the reamer fixed the problem.)

The windows and doors.  Glazing will be next for them.

Powder blue for the interior walls.

Blue is a popular Masonic color, so blue it was the the doors, interior, and windows.

I'm waiting for a new can of khaki paint to arrive. I didn't realize I was so low in the old can.  Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow and I can put the basecoat on the lodge.

Have fun,
mike

Howdy folks,

I experimented with scenery today, watched several videos of Caprock Canyon, and decided how to landscape the layout.  There will be grass, mostly brown with a hint of green, and a lot of shrubs.  Not so many trees other than mesquite.

All the scenery materials are on the layout and ready to go.

Experiment with scenery materials for the caprock area.

After I photographed this area, I put down ballast on the turnouts.  When it dries, I'll take a photo.

Howdy folks,

Jerry, as always, thank you for your support.  I appreciate it.

Here is a photo of ballast on a turnout.  Since it was a test only, it hasn't been glued in place and the edges tidied.  I need to fill the wiring hole first and test the electrical connection.  I know I should have done that before ballasting, but I was anxious to see what it was going to look like.

Mike, nice interior and door/window color on the lodge.
That's a great looking skatepark.
I will definitely have to remember that place if I'm ever in the area again.
Great start on the scenery.

Larry C

Mike that's a really nice shade of blue for the lodge. The scenery start is looking really good as well; should be a very nice looking layout when finished. The ballast looks good the way it is; you don't always have to make the edges in a straight line.

Nice start on the ballast Mike.  I like the way it looks just as it is.

Howdy Philip,

Thanks for the comment.  The ballast is from Arizona Rock and Mineral Company, #1502 UPRR & BNSF St. Louis, MO, and #1503 Mainline Ballast, same roads, mixed.  I was surprised it was so large for HO, but it is perfect for me.
