Hi Mike,

I think I would have been on my third bottle of Tylenol by now.
This is exceptional modeling. Out of my league of thinking what
goes where. Unbelievable. Good work.

Howdy folks,

Curt, Rick, Larry, and Rich, thank you for your kind remarks.  It's amazing how much time it took to build such a small part as the crown head.  Rich, I can't take Advil anymore, and Tylenol doesn't work for me.  Alas, my hands have been sore in the mornings.  ;D

Have fun,
mike

Mike, Howdy,

Superior job on the crown head detailing. I'm with Curt, I'd have them 3D printed. However, I'm with you in that there is great satisfaction in scratch building something nobody else has done. For me, it was the scratch building my outside staircase on the Flat Iron Building.

Hobby on my friend.

That is a great looking oil derrick.

I won a contest sponsored by the Battle Creek Enquirer and News with a model of an oil rig I constructed from various bits and pieces.  Never was familiar with the variety of materials available but managed to throw something together the judges liked.  I've always been fascinated with the oil drilling industry.

That will be a nice scene on your layout.

Howdy folks,

Jerry, Tom, Karl, and Philip, thanks for commenting.  This is a fun build.

The primary base is ready for glue-up.  The footers are 12X12s laminated.  There is more to the base, but the parts are to be cut from dimensional lumber. There was nothing difficult about this step.

Here is the base progress to date, waiting for the stain to dry before glue-up.

Have fun,
mike

Howdy folks,

Thank you for the comment, Larry.

The base is finished and ready for the drill and pump details.

Base with derrick temporarily attached.  Flooring will hide most of the base.

Have fun,

Too bad the flooring will hide all that nice detail you've built.
Looks great.
