Howdy folks,

It was a long day at the bench because of the battens on the post office.  Whew, I had forgotten how tedious they can be.  

Here's a photo of the battens applied and ready for assembly.

Mike I ordered brown india ink to give your vines a try. I was surprised by all the colors available. I thought it only came in black!

Curt, your comments are always appreciated.  India ink is strong, so try diluting it a lot to begin with.  I mix it with black and alcohol for my wood coloring.

Here are a couple of photos of progress on the post office.

Assembled structure ready for the roof trusses.


I made a mistake in my design and forgot to add slots for a truss ridge beam. Oh well, I'll remember next time.


The structure is in the paint booth, drying. Next, I'll add the corner trim boards and work on the porch. As of this morning, I have decided on either green or red fish-scale shingles.

Like others, I might just have borrow the vine technique. The sheriff building looks great as does the napping sheriff.

The post office is also looking great.  While adding the battens is a time consuming progress, the final result is well worth the effort.
