Howdy Kyle,

Still loving your backdrops.  Saw it on a YouTube video today.  They make me want to use backdrops instead of an island.

Have fun,

THanx Curt, thanx Mike;

YOUTUBE??? :o  :o ....Whos' channel??  I don't recall any Youtube activity ::)  ::)  ::) Oh well I hope it looked good... ;D  ;D ....Speaking of looking good ::) I put the finishing touches on the cloud over Dilapidated today(Wednesday). 8)  8) I kinda like it :) - I'm trying to show an anvil cloud starting to billow up out of a cumulus cloud. :o  :o  :o  I also cleaned up the 'underside of the cloud all across the base, and tried to 'bring it closer' in the middle so as to counteract the inward curve of the backdrop through the corner portion. ???  ???  I'll let ya'll be the judges as to whether it came out ok or not :)  :) - as they say "It's all over with now" ;D  ;D  ;D

Here's some shots of the thing.........and thanx for stoppin' by and checkin' in on the 'comings & goings' of the G&D Ry Co. ;D  ;)  ;) ......ya'll stay tuned-more to come 8)  8)  8)  8)

I would say that your backdrop paintings look as good as your front modeled buildings.

Thanx LarryC.*, thanx Mike, and thanx Rich;

I am rather pleased with how the cloud came out Larry C* 8) , hey Mike thanx - I had totally forgotten about that; that was the G&D Ry Co. in the apartment during the 2023 National NMRA Convention here in DFW.  I had 21 visitors for the open house.  I sent the pictures off to DIY RR about a month later...and forgot all about it.....thanx for the tip. ;)  ;D  ;D .........Hey Rich thanx I try to make them as realistic as I can; ;D.... BUT THEIR NOT PAINTED well the sky is, and the basic land forms :o  :o  :o all the rest of the details-rocks, grass, trees, waterfalls, clouds, everything else is done in PASTELS ;D - soft chalk and sometimes oil pastels.  It's been an interesting change from cheap acrylic hobby paints :o but now I really prefer pastels as a medium instead of paint.

Today (Saturday) I worked on the horizon above Dilapidated ??? I didn't know exactly what I would do when I first finished the cloud the other day ::) But today I looked up at the cloud and it all just started to appear to me in my minds eye :o  :o  :o  8).....so I grabbed my step stool & pastels, then went to work.. ;D  ;D

I hope the shots look alright, there's nothing done yet immediately above the town; ??? but I have a couple of ideas already starting to percolate in my noggin :o  ::)  ;) ...but there's also the remainder of the horizon to the left of the 'unfinished rock pillar' in the foreground of the backdrop ....so maybe I'll go there next.

Thanx again to everybody that stopped by to see what's going on.....ya'll stay tuned.......

That last photo is a real treat.  I always like seeing layouts in their enclosing space/rooms.

Thanx Jerry, thanx Dave, and thanx Curt;

I've continued working on the horizon; :) I haven't yet decided how to 'finish up' the cloud in the middle of the portion of backdrop I'm now working on ::)  ::) So I began by working on the scenery immediately below it; going across from right to left until I reached a spot where I'm not really sure what's gonna happen next (what will go there) ::)  ::)  :o .....so I began blending in the two portions that straddle the as yet to be detailed 'rock pillar' in the backdrop foreground ;D  ;D  ;D  ............I added a distant treeline 8)  ;) and changed some of the 'small' ??? ridgeline 'cliffs'.....(I don't really know what else to call them) so they would look continuous.... ??? :o  :o... overall I'm really pleased with how it turned out.... ;D  ;D  ;D  8)  8)  8)......photos to come......Thanx again for the very kind comments and suggestions-they keep me focused and pushing ahead ;)  ;)  ;).....ya'll come back now..... ;)  ;)  ;) ............

Thanx Jeff, and thanx Bobb;

I continued work on the backdrop today (Sunday); I added some detail and 'girth' to the cloud mentioned in the above post; brought the 'red cliffs'across from left to right below the cloud and re-did the treeline along the horizon in front of the 'red cliffs' ;)  ;).  Then I 'removed the 'large obtrusive angled rock edifice':o  :o  :o  from the backdrop at Grizzly :o  :o  and replaced it with more sky and brought the 'red cliffs' across where it used to be. ;D  ;D  ;).  I also got Mark to help me reconfigure the location of the 'Arch', and adjusted the surrounding scenery accordingly ;D  ;D  ;D.........I really like the look of the corner area now - 'things look like they're in their proper place';D  ;D-and the trackwork didn't have to be moved at all;  ;)  8)  8)..............

Here's some before and after shots for your inspection ;D  ;D  ;D  8) ....thanx again for stoppin' by.....ya'll stay tuned;  and thanx for the comments and suggestions......they really help ;)  ;) .........
