Quite a task.

I let myself get talked into a "if you don't like it change it". I so hate the Sawzall, tool of the devil.

8_10 years later...I need Gage's optimism... some day...

Persist, Frisco Mike. often says.  He's a wise man.

Thanx Larry C*., thanx Phillip, thanx Michael, and thanc Karl,...also thanx to all the 'passers by doing some window shopping'  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D ......

Well I got started, all the locomotive boxes are rounded up, and the same with the rolling stock;.... it's taken a couple of days, :o (1:1 stuff), dogie baths for fleas, major industrial'spring mopping' with a real janitor style 'rag mop n' bucket/wringer'.... :o  :o  :o we have the 'latest vinyl wood floors'  ::) from 5 years ago, and every week they get a good 'going over' with windex and hot water ::)  ::)  :o  :o ....then Gage and I do a little extra 'scrubbing' in the spring......my back's killing me... >:(  >:(  >:( ...got it all done though.....I began to 'spritz' up the room a bit, and decided to take a few more measurements...oops... :o  :o  :o  :o ...if I want this to work out and not become a 'yoke on my neck' after it's built,....clearances, height,  and location have to be absolutely right, I ain't doing this again  >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(  ;D  ;D  ;D ......

Bottom line ....the D&G Ry. layout has to be smaller :o  :o  :o .....not a whole lot,  ???  ??? ...but smaller..the current dimensions are 6 feet 2" by 3 feet 6"......too wide - too long.... >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(  >:( ...sooo I went back to the plan (as always) and made the 'modifications'..... ???  ???  ???  ??? with just a little 'snip here' and a little 'snip there' I got what will actually work out to be a much better fit.... ;D  ;D  ;D  ;) ...and because of that, the tall (7') bookcase that currently sits on its' side and would be under the new layout, will now be back 'upright', not in the way, and put  to good use again.... ;D  ;) ...I'll also have more access to underneath the layout for storage... ;D  ;D  ;D  ;)  ;) .....the new dimensions are 6'long and 3 feet 2"wide... ;D  ;D  ;)  ;) ....

I had to make some compromises on radii, but I worked out that (by testing) I can have 18" easements into 15" radius on all the curves...it worked out very well,... ;D  ;D ....since the curves are not very long;...on average I only need one section of 15" radius in each curve .... ;D  ;D  ;D ......the 'hilltop spring' had to go,(not enough clearance underneath the track),I had to'reconfigure' the facilities for taking in the ore car and loading out the liquid BS filled tank car, :o  :o  ;D ..I'll also have only one whisker track besides the little engine shoppe whisker track in Dorre....but I was able to add one to the Sector Plate in Gaphetid  ;D  ;) ....since I'm only using three locomotives, a 2-6-0, a (BLI)2-8-0, and a 2-6-2, I should be A-OK... ;D  ;D  ;D ...beside this is a 'rinky-dink' little RR and this way it'll stay that way..... ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)

Here's the result.................

Hope it looks 'up to snuff', thanx again for all the input, it really helps out - especially when there are so many hurdles and curves to negotiate  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;)  ;) .....ya'll stay tuned....see ya..... 8)  8)  8)  8)  8)

Kyle sounds like you've been doing some serious imagineering. When I actually had a layout it was about 7 feet long and I was surprised how much modeling you could get in a space that size even in On30. The width should make a huge difference while the sector plate should save you a lot of real estate. So when does the sawdust start "a fly'in?"

Kyle good luck with staying with the list and building the new RR.

Thanx LarryC*., and thanx Jerry.....

Larry C*. - I think this smaller size will let me focus in on some areas of modelling that I haven't been very interested in because I've never taken the time to really try my hand at, like detailing; one you and most all the guys here on the Narrow Line have done such fabulous work in.... ;D  ;D  ;D  ;) .....the foam probably starts flyin' around mid June.......

Jerry, you're thoughts and wishes are right on point, it's tough to stay on task, especially with a lot of other 1:1 stuff flyin' around lookin' for a spot to land... :o  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;) ....but I'm gonna give it a shot.....

Speaking of shots ... ::) ...here's two comparison shots of the room footprint showing the layout size differences in relation to how much 'usable' floor space I have...it may not seem like much, but in 1:1 scale it's a bunch..... ;D  ;D  ;D .....

Here's the 6'-2" x 3'-6" version......

Here's the new 6' x 3'-2" size........

The chairs can now fit neatly back against or close to the wall,.. ;)  ;)  their not sticking out into the 'walk way area' because of the bookcase, and the desk fits neatly under the layout, :) ....there's just less area taken up by the furniture and layout in the new design......my mom always said that "No matter the room size, the more you can see the base boards- the bigger or more spacious the room feels".....in my life I have found this to be true.... ;D  ;D  ;D .......that's about all for now, gotta 'get back to it'.....thanx for all the ideas, support, comments and suggestions.....all are very much appreciated.......ya'll stay tuned.....see ya... 8)  8)  8)  8)  8)
