Rick

Good morning everyone.

Arlington, WA weather: Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 79.

Curt, thanks for the coffee.
Mike and Larry, thanks for the combined breakfasts.

Curt, have fun with either the kit or being at Tom's.

Ron, hope the garage cleaning goes well.

Jerry, hope you're almost done with the cleaning.

Larry, I saw an article yesterday saying that the hummingbird migration south has started.

Jim, Franklin sure is a handsome pup and hope you get the printer working again.

TomO, I found a gym north of Seattle to go to, so haven't been to Seattle yet.
All the best to your brother.

ACLTom, have fun with the crew today.

Karl, those are a couple of excellent photos.

How's everyone else doing?

It's nice having a good internet connection again.
Did two great hikes with my friend Whit, who also owns a Storyteller van, it's a Ford Transit, and lives in Bend, OR.
First hike was on Tuesday to the top of Pilchuck Mountain.
There's a whole story about Star at the top of the mountain that I'll get into maybe tomorrow.
The second hike was to the top of Dickerman Mountain.
That hike was about 9.5 miles and 3,900' of EG.
The views from Dickerman Mountain were spectacular.
A quick stop at Costco then heading north to North Cascades NP where there will be more hiking.

TomO, I'm surprised Vancouver was cheaper than Seattle.  That wasn't my experience 30 years ago when we lived in Vancouver.  Seattle is one of my favorite cities to visit, after multiple trips there I have a list of places I like to go to.  Vancouver is the same way.  BUT the country in between, including the Skagit River Valley, North Cascades National Park, and Mount Baker/Mount Shuksan is a part of the country I really miss from our time in the Pacific Northwest.

Jim, nice modeling buddy.  Mine don't like to be in the train room, unless I'm on the couch doing research.  Both insist my position is sitting on the couch next to them, not working at the bench.

I'm listening to the weekly summary of Trump-related lawsuits as a podcast.  It was live Friday night while we were standing in line for the Greek Festival.  We did take-out (lamb shanks for me, roast chicken for wife, and baklava and cookies, I'm eating one of the cookies with my morning coffee.)  Late last night, an appeals court ruled (7-4) against the Trump tariffs, but the 'fat lady' has not stopped singing on this case!

Dave. Vancouver wasn't inexpensive but Terry is able to track everything we spend. The credit card breaks down what we spend and she puts it into a spread sheet and has for years. Just Uber alone was 25% less on the base rate depending on the car ride we wanted. We generally travel Uber comfort cars and that was a surprise.

The exchange rate was $1 USD $1.37 CAD when we were there last week. Terry figures after the exchange rate is 17% overall higher in Seattle. The biggest issue for us was the cleanliness or lack of and the people were rude not friendly. But that was just us. YMMV

The 1st week in November we are going back to both Seattle and Vancouver. Plus Edmonton and Calgary as the NHL Chicago BlackHawks make their Western swing on their schedule. So 2 nights in each and I get to see my Hawks play and Terry gets to enjoy my enjoyment. She's not a NHL fan but does love the youth and Women's hockey game. We'll have a good time.

There are parts of Washington I'd like to explore outside of Seattle, maybe someday. From the Amtrak Coast Daylight, Eugene,Oregon and south seemed very interesting but it was dusk and then dark as we rode through.

October 25 the Wisconsin Badger football plays in Eugene. Thankfully we are not big Badger FB fans and 2 weeks chasing sports and having to give up our Texas trip to see the son in Austin is too much! PLUS the FB sucks!

Rick

Good morning.

It will be sunny with a high of 80 here at North Cascades National Park.

I'll get the coffee going and the sodas and OJ are in the fridge.

Didn't set up the computer and on the phone now so keeping it brief again.
I'm doing another hike this morning but Star will have to stay in the van. :(

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning All,

Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, yogurt, donuts, OJ, and soda.

Started the day with a walk at 76F with moderate humidity. Had a great time yesterday at Tom's visiting with Bill, and Greg. Tom gave me a couple of pointers on lighting the cabin car project. I'm going to do that project after the boiler house build.

Today after chores I will work on the kit and try to do an update later.

Rick enjoy your hike. Poor Star.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all,

Thanks for breakfast Curt, much appreciate it.

As Curt mentioned, we had a great time yesterday. Of course we each had our share of BSing. Lunch was at our local Saturday watering hole where the BSing continued.

Our grandson is in a U.S. Coast Guard National Capital Region Air Defense video. He is the third guardsman interviewed. He is also the man pulling down his helmet visor and wearing the helmit with the state of Florida decal.

My day includes a run to the grocery store and then train shed time.

Have a great day everyone and stay safe.

Good Morning,

Rick thanks for the coffee and have a safe enjoyable hike. Sounds like you owe Star big time.

Curt thanks for breakfast and the second cup-o-joe. Have fun with the kit; looking forward to your update.

Tom glad you guys had such a great time yesterday. At our age BS'ing is more of an art form really. Have fun in the Shed.

Terry good morning.

What's on your docket for the day.

It's another sunny 52 with a high of 76 in New York; I could get used to this. My Contractor's built a new roof over the front porch and is rebuilding the porch itself. Also have a couple of roof repairs later on in the month; lots of $$$ going out. Maybe some bench time later.

Have an enjoyable day and tomorrow's Sept. 1st already as the NYS Fair winds down; Kids go back to school the 3rd. Be well and stay safe.

OPS went well yesterday. Ran 2 1/2 local runs and enjoyed a full schedule of info, blather and good snacks with a fine undercurrent of BS!

Good morning Rick, Curt, Tom, Terry, Larry, Jerry, Mike and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Thanks for the coffee Rick and the breakfast Curt.

Rick, enjoy your hike, just remember, you are going to owe Star big time.

Curt, have fun working on your kit and I'm looking forward to the update.

Tom, sounds like everyone had a great time yesterday.

Terry, enjoy your day.

Larry, I'm sure it will be worth it, one the work is completed.  Have fun at the bench.

Jerry, have fun with the grandkids.

Mike, Have fun at your daughters.

Karl, looks like it was great weather to attend an op's session.

TomO, looks like you have a lot of travel plans in the near future.

It's currently 15c (59f) and sunny today.  The last two days have put a hamper on my plans due to the rain, but yesterday was successful as I managed to clean up the back yard by getting rid of all the tree branches that we collecting there over the years and more "junk" was thrown in the bin which is now 3/4 full.  It is amazing how much junk one collects over the years.  Today's plan is to trim some branches that are overhanging the existing shed, demolish the existing shed, make a run to Home Depot to get the wood required to modify the existing floor for the new shed (which arrived yesterday) and do a grocery run as stores are closed tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning from Wisconsin! I'm happy to be home and early by about 8 days. I just don't enjoy Maui as much as my wife does and since the brother was flying to play golf I hitched a ride. 53f degrees at wake up is a bit different then the high 70's at Hawaiian wake-up time but it's nice in the house. Terry should return September 8th, she stayed with my sister and the brother's girlfriend.

The brother will talk to his doctors to schedule his surgery on Tuesday. Wherever it ends up I will go there for him. Meanwhile he'll golf and in pain! His choice.

Today I'm taking the grandson on campus to see Texas and Wisconsin women play volleyball. If it ends quick enough we may go to the Capital building and try the Taste of Madison. 300 food vendors have surrounded the Capital building and it has always been a great tasty event.

Ron, I couldn't get tickets for the Hawks to play the Maple Leaf or we'd have been in Toronto this season. We are going to travel as much as possible the next few years. Both of us getting sick the end of 2024 and then 2025 made us realize, let's get out there and go before it's too late

Enjoy the day
TomO
