Thursday in the mitten state is dazzling sun  8) and chill after a bit of rain yesterday.

I was driven to the basement where I managed some time to work on the layout

I worked on ground cover and some backdrop painting as well.

This morning I've started some domestic chores and I have PT this afternoon ::)

We're in for some transitional weather this week. A bit cool, wet and windy is what they guess.  ;)

Enjoy the day all. Pumpkin spice is in style this week.

While in nearby Lake :o  Odessa yesterday I noticed a unsecured rail joint on the rarely used house track siding

The rail is dated to early days, possibly before Pere Marquette days of what now is CSX

1925 100yrs old. That rail once lead to a grain elevator then a transload.

That's all I've got! :o  KS

I bet the track crew "borrowed" that splice bar...

I'm getting serious about pick-up/put-away, organizing all those small parts.  I ordered some small plastic boxes to try to gather stuff together.  Once I get the stuff off the floor, I might think about digging stuff out of the closet to add that stuff to the new organization.

Afternoon all,

Gee, it's been a busy morning. I started out with my 2.5 mile walk. Then, after cleaning up from that, I ran to Home Depot to pick up three fresh five-gallon water bottles for the cooler we use in the kitchen. Swung by the 'bad place', as my better half refers to McDonalds, on the way home to pick up breakfast.  Then a trip to the eye Doctor to pick up some glasses that were ready. After that I swung by the pharmacy at Publix to get the Flu and RSV vaccine. Just now got home and sent an e-mail to my regular Doc asking what's next on that front. Blood work I'm assuming but I'll wait to hear from them. I think the rest of the day is mine now. Maybe I'll hit the workbench after lunch.

Have a great one!

Good morning, Karl and crew. I had routine blood drawn this morning and then a walk.  After some chores I have styrene brick walls to glue together.

Karl, that's quite a gap in the rails.  During WWII the Army ran some tests on how to blow up track and found it wasn't easy to derail a train.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agznZBiK_Bs

Interesting video, George. I'd seen that, makes one laugh at the Hollywood attempts at sabotage.

Actually the splice bar is laying there outside the cropped photo. CSX recently upgraded the signaling system and the unused track might have interfered with the continuity (?).

The orange connector on the other rail appears to be plastic and a small piece of something in the gap there.

Huh.  There IS a prototype for everything.  In this case, Karl has found the prototype for insulated rail joiners.  Just paint them orange...
