Good evening!  I'm back from Springfield, about an hour or two earlier than usual.  A couple quick observations:  1.  I think crowds were down significantly from last year.  2.  But I think it's mostly families that stayed home.  The Scenic Express booth was cleaned out by 1:00 PM.  I said to Jim Elster "Seems the people who showed up brought full wallets." He agreed.  3.  Several people I wanted to talk to were not there, but most booths were occupied.  4.  I had a good talk with a guy at the Athearn booth about marketing early rail stuff and reaching out to the right audience.  I did get to see their truss rod freight cars (gons and the tank car.)   I'm particularly excited about the tank car, it's easy to scratchbuild flatcars and gondolas.  5.  Other than that, I don't recall seeing anything particularly new & surprising, with the exception of a new Deluxe Materials matte finish.  (I bought some to try.)

I did come home with everything I was expecting to buy.  I'm still disappointed no one is bringing stripwood to Springfield any more.  B&B Hobbies reports they have good stockage of the HunterLine stains.  Bill said "It's a bit of a challenge to work within the current shipping and tariff rules.  We don't want to buy too much if the tariff will be reduced. But we have a case of Driftwood, the biggest seller, due in to refill our stock.  It'll probably be waiting for us when we get home."

Good evening,

Curt, thanks for opening.  Congrats on the new toys.

Larry, hope you stayed warm up there.

Jim, wishing you success with the TV stand construction.

Rick, I really enjoyed the Tinopah video.

TomACL, congrats on the Koontz build completion.

Ron, did you purchase decals specially for the boxcars, or did you make your own?

Jerry, hope your room warmed up for hobby fun.

Greg, howdy.

How is the rest of the crew?

It' was a dreary day in the 40s, but nicer than the frozen north and west. One of my hearing aids broke off in my ear, so I went for a repair.  They fixed the hearing aid, but would not take the end out of my ear.  So, I found a pair of blunt medical tweezers from my hobby desk and fished the half-inch-long speaker out of my ear.  I slept most of the afternoon since I only slept six hours last night.

Have fun,
mike

Good morning everyone.

In Birmingham it's 51 now, all day rain and 58 later.

Coffee, sodas, OJ and hot chocolate are ready.
Those of you that need to go outside and shovel will need some good fuel to do the job.
This mornings fuel are belly buster sandwiches.

I hope everyone in the storms path is staying warm and safe.

Mike, sorry about the hearing aid but glad you were able to get the broken one out.

Dave, thanks for the show report and have fun with your purchases.

Greg, thank you.
I appreciate you taking the time to watch.

Jerry, did your room get warm enough?

Ron, did decaling or decking happen?

ACLTom, have fun with the challenge.

Jim, pretty picture.

I stopped in at a Barnes & Noble where I had a coffee and thumbed through some magazines.
That was about it for yesterday.
Today I'll hit the gym and then go to a Buffalo Wild Wings for a late lunch and the early football game.

Last year at Yosemite.

Have a great day everyone and take it easy shoveling.

Good Morning All,

Thanks for opening and breakfast Rick. Beautiful landscape. Enjoy your day.

Started out here at 63F and heavy fog. It's supposed to get to the high 80's today before taking the plunge into the 30's.

I just helped MOH load up the animals and she is on her way to Tampa. To say she is getting fed up with the every weekend events is putting it mildly and volunteers are burning out. Hopefully Kathy talks to the head person today. As of now there is a event every weekend until the end of February. The problem is that we have the vehicle that transports all the gear so Kathy has to be at every one. :-X

Nothing really planned for today again, but I will putter around the workbench some. Tuesday afternoon I'm meeting up with Terry (Vietnam Seabee) to pick up my next SW kit. The Deer Creek Mine was purchased from him also. ;D

That's enough blabbing and venting for today.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all,

Thanks for breakfast Rick, haven't had a belly buster in some time. Oh wait, I had a hernia in Dec. '24. Rick that is a great photo this morning.

Curt, I learned many years ago that being a volunteer is a pain. Not saying it isn't a good thing but, one can be taken advantage of if you are a reliable one.

Pam wants to go practice bowling this morning. I'll go but not sure I'll bowl. Just not in the mood for that this morning.

Bench time for me later.

Have a safe and warm day everyone.

Morning Gents,

Rick thanks for the coffee and breakfast; I'll need all the energy I can get. Nice photo and enjoy the wings and the game.

Curt send some of those warm temps up North. Sadly the "workers" for events get taken advantage of; it's the same with any group. Have fun at the bench.

Tom you can just coach Pam instead of bowling. Enjoy your bench time later.

Mike glad to hear you were able to get the broken piece out of your ear. They probably refused doing the extraction for insurance reasons.

What's on your agenda for the day.

It's currently 5 with a high of 11 and that's it for the day. The Nor'easter is supposed to kick in sometime between 10am & noon thru Monday afternoon. With 12-18 inches I'll have to clean out the drive way a couple of times; not sure the snowblower could handle that much all at once. Some bench time this am and I want to clean the Escape off and back it up closer to the road before the crap starts.

Have a great day!!! Those of you dealing with the storm stay safe and dress in layers to keep warm; be well all.

Good morning, Rick, Curt, Tom, Larry and later arrivals.  I'll put a box of paczki on the counter (there's still enough of a Polish community and tradition in the Connecticut River Valley that local grocery chains like Big Y make them seasonally), then I'm off to see what's going on at the Amherst Club train show at the Eastern States (home of what's effectively the State Fair of all New England).  Didn't buy anything yesterday, but did see a lot of old friends. The B&M Modeler's Get-Together attendees were mostly on-line but I saw a lot of good work and didn't get rotten tomatoes over my "computer/network tech" work.

Good morning from a stilled chilled but warming So Central Wisconsin. Currently -2f feeling like -19 but oh so much nicer than the last 3-5 days. It's like a heat wave!

Been down at the bench destroying styrene and emptying paint bottles via airbrush for basically the last week. I need to hit up the LHS this afternoon and empty out his styrene supply, again

Went on campus for a hockey game yesterday afternoon and will again this morning. The last game for the 6 Badgers Women who are playing in the Olympics. They will be back the 1st weekend in March. Missing players will make conference play tough but it is what it is. They are #1 now but expect to lose a few games over the next 5 weeks. But they still should make the NCAA playoffs and when the Olympians return will return to #1

Now to go back and read what I missed

Be well, stay safe

Good morning Rick, Curt, ACLTom, Larry, James, TomO and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Thanks for the coffee and hearty breakfast Rick, going to need it today.  Enjoy the wings and football game.

Curt, have fun puttering around.  In the "old" days I used to volunteer a lot but ended up suffering burnout so I volunteer a lot less now.

ACLTom, I bet you change your mind and end up bowling.  ;D  Have fun puttering around in the shed this afternoon.

Larry, Be careful shoveling the snow today, have fun at the bench this morning.

Mike, My decals are white so I had them custom made by Precision Design Co.  I supplied the artwork and was very happy with the results.

James, have fun at the show.

TomO, enjoy the hockey game today.

Current temperature is -22c (-8f) and overcast with 10-20+cm (4-8+in) of snow expected between this afternoon and tomorrow morning.  Looks like tomorrow will be a work from home day.  Bench time yesterday was spent planking the loading dock.  Got about a third of it done, it is a slow process but I'm very pleased with the result.  I also managed to spray the boxcars with a gloss cote so they are ready for the decals.

Have a great day everyone.

Up to 60 in the lower mitten this morning after a record setting -200 at a nearby University associated Ag Weather reporting station, just SSE of me a half dozen miles.  We are getting 2-3 or 3-6 inches of snow depending on the path of the Super Storm.  As it's trash to the road day, most likely I'll fun the Deere this afternoon.

I was at trestle bents most of the day yesterday, finished up 8 of varying height.  I need to engineer layout placement in the next phase of the project.

SPARTY beat Maryland 91-48 in a clinic on Natl'll TV yesterday.  Nice to be able to have them on an accessable outlet for a change.  The current state of college sports viewing is disappointing to go easy on my feelings.

TomO, sounds like  you're at it big time.  I had bet myself after a couple days of missing your sprightly commentary of all things Wisconsin that you might show up suddenly reporting from some place warm and tropical.  ;)

Football has no interest for me spiritually any more this season but may watch one of the games, most like the West Coast teams just for a time filler.

Enuf from here.

Rick, travel safe.  All you folks in the Mason-Dixon areas are on our thoughts here.  STAY IN!

Be Safe, stay well.

Well, the dogs have been out twice and completed their business, so that's A Good Thing.  Snow should start early afternoon.  Dogs won't be happy this evening.  I just dug out some ground meat (beef, pork, sausage combo) and will do a batch of chile tonight.

First order of business in the train room will be unpacking the stuff from Springfield.  With the exception of 2 BESTTrains kits (house and barn for my farm area), I didn't spend much.  But that doesn't mean I came home empty handed.  Then I'll do the handrails on the farm bridge.

Still hunkering down. The weather folks were wrong from the get go. Maybe 3" so far.
They got the cold part right.

Morning everyone

Rick thanks for the coffee & breakfast.
Great picture.

Weather here in South Jersey is wintery 26 and heavy sn*w!!!
With all this cold weather I haven't been able to use my room.  It just to much for my small heater to keep warm.
I'll post a picture of the wall I have framed later.  I did start the second before the cold.

Everyone have a great day!!  :)

Good Morning All,

Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, bagels, yogurt, OJ, and soda.

Started out the day at an unbelievable 72F with it being breezy trying to rain. It's supposed to be in the 30's this time tomorrow. :o

Didn't accomplish much yesterday, mainly picking up and arranging the workbench area in preparation for the new kit. MOH made it home about 6 pm.

Another slow day after chores. I may get chlorine so I don't have to deal with it tomorrow when it's colder.

Larry when are you going to write another chapter?

I hope everyone has a good day.
