I'm set up in the garage for an afternoon's modelling.  I have a very large list of tasks to complete on my project.  Hopefully I can tick a few off!

Hi guys.

I got a few little jobs done yesterday.

Photo 1 - I cut some tank bodies from some dowel.  I cut planks from 6x1's and 4x1's and glued these to the body.


Photo 2 - I laid a piece of high tack tape on my cutting mat and measured and cut it into strips.  I removed every second strip and painted using Mig rust tracks.  Removing every second strip means the edges get painted.  I used 2 pi r to get the length right, allowing a little extra for a lap.


Photo 3 - I marked the position of the bands at four spots around the circumference of the tank and carefully wrapped them around using my eyeometer 1969 to line up.  I started in the same place with each band and will put the laps to the back.  I added Campbell band tighteners.  They were the only ones I had on hand, but will be looking into getting some better ones.  I painted the top of the tank dark green/ black and added Golden gloss gel.  This was quite thick and so it looks like a windy day.  The base was made from 8x2's.  I still have to add legs, braces and install.


Photo 4 - I made up a blackish brown wash and applied this to the shingles, getting the brush underneath any lifted shingles. 


Photo 5 - Once dry I did a series of dry brushes using paynes grey, tans and off whites.

Howdy, Mark, the tank bands and couplings look terrific.  I like the roofing.  Although Campbell's shingles are old compared with the new ones, you've made them look fantastic.  Nice work as usual.  Have fun, mike

Mike - I still really like the Campbells shingles.  I find this Troels Kirk painting method works very well and is pretty idiot proof.

The tank is pretty easy to do.  I'm pleased you all like the bands - again, very simple.
