Thanks again for all the great historical F&SM pictures - great stuff! Is it just me or does 1987 seem like it was just a few years ago.

John,

You are welcome. It has been fun comparing the old to the new. Oh yes, I was thinking November 1987 was just last week. I wish it were 1987.

Turning the clock back to 1987 had some appeal, until I realized that I would have to work another 28 years before retirement.

If you look in the background of the pictures from the last page of this thread you will see this boarded up yard tower.  It is also in the pictures from 1987.  John Sullivan captured this picture of the tower.

John,

That may be true but when I had 20+ years to go prior to retirement, I was having fun and didn't hurt everywhere. I'd like to go back with my current knowledge and I certainly would spend more time working on the layout.

Does anybody know if the Brasco Brass Polish Co. is still on the F&SM? I've looked but maybe I've just missed it.

The side and back walls are from the Magnuson kit, The Grain Exchange.

Never mind, I found it on page 44. Thanks to John's building list.

The smaller white structure is no long at it's side.

I'm glad the list is working! Now if I would just keep going back and get it up-to-date.

Yesterday, I had a long phone conversation with George.  I think I got answers to all the latest questions.  I will be posting answers over the next few days - as requested I will post a short note about the changes being made and the page number of where to find them.

I recently came across several F&SM pictures. They were all taken in November of 1987.  Bob Bourdreau took the photos. The story I have of the pictures is that my friend, Dick DeWitt (now deceased) purchased these off Ebay in 1988.

This was long before any forums and George Sellios stopped photo taking on the F&SM due to the fact he heard people were selling the photos of the F&SM.

These pictures came to me when Dick passed in 2009.

The pictures sure show a different look to the F&SM we see today. Here are the first two of about 30 I have from 1987.

John gave me permission to post these on his thread.

Thank you Tom , was the bridge a kit , and who from if so?

Notes added 12/11/15 after a phone conversation with George Sellios.  This Bridge was built from an article that appeared in the September 1953 Model Railroader.  George used Central Valley parts for the bridge iron work and the weights and other details are from his own castings.

Who has the September 1953 MR and would be willing to scan and post the article?

For those that are looking forward to visiting the F&SM at the EXPO - I talked to George Sellios yesterday and he's working on the railroad again!  For those that have visited before - the long curtain that greeted you at the top of the stairs and you followed it through the hall way until you turned the corner and there was Franklin. Well George tells me it's gone.  Replaced with new section of the layout. George told me to let everyone know that he is working hard to finish this area for our visit in March!

One more comment for John - we call him CUSE - I think your going to like what George is doing in this area.  Just sayin!

It appears I need to schedule an EXPO visit around the Boston area and not Lancaster and Scranton.

Sellios and F&SM, Marshall Sommers and Rhode Haven, etc. vs. Scranton and Steam Town, Lancaster and Strasburg!

I need to get my EXPO priorities straight.
