I enjoyed watching the sign come together.  Will it be lit at some point in the project?

One of the nicest of my automobile related 'treasures' is a large porcelain Goodyear sign I literally stumbled upon behind a barn while waiting for my wife at a estate pre-sale for a friend's father. The owner said, take it.

Goodyear adv holds up well over the years.

Your Horwoods in progressing nicely, Tom

I remember some of the LEDs that Bill Sartore sells might make good spotlights if you choose to light the sign and don't have another plan in mind....

Tom, your "Goodyear" sign and method of placing it all worked out perfectly!

Dave, Tom purchased the lighting kit that goes with the Horwood's kit, from "Ngineering"
It also includes the lighting for the Goodyear sign.
Tom, I hope you don't mind me posting how my sign came out looking, and showing Dave how your lights will look on your sign when you get yours built and installed.

Quote from: deemery on July 05, 2026, 02:28:48 PMGreat results!  On assembling the sign to the brackets, I wonder if it would have been better to glue the brackets, rear horizontal braces, and walkway together first, and then mounting the sign to the bracket assembly.

But hey, your way worked just fine!

About 15 years ago, I said "One thing that distinguishes well designed kits is the best include assembly jigs."  I bet they could have cut a jig to assemble the brackets in alignment (horizontally) out of some scrap wood.  2 of those would have substantially simplified assembly, I think.

Dave,

Thank you for the compliment on the sign.

I considered all different methods attaching the "Good Year" to the billboard baking. Laying it flat and then adding the sign was the easiest method. The brackets are very delicate and I'm sure wouldn't stand up to the pressure of adding the sign.

Butty Bob,

Thank you as well. I think the sign really is a great addition to a great kit. The location for these buildings is perfect.

Karl,

Thanks for the compliment, the question and for stopping by.

Yes, the sign will be lit. I have the lighting kit from Engineering and will build the lights at some time down the "build road".

Great find on the Good Year sign. All auto related porcelan signs are in demand.

Dave,

The Engineering LED lighting kits has two spot lights for the sign. Bill's LED are great as well and I've used many of his in my lighting efforts.
