Good morning folks,

Rick, thanks for opening and breakfast. Terrific mountain top photo of Star and you.  She looks fit!

Larry, well wishes to your other half at the dentist.  No fun.

Curt, sounds like you have a house full, Dad and grandson. Happy Birthday to your grandson.

Dave, hope you enjoy the hobby shop.  What a treat!

Philip, congrats on the garden growth.

Karl, the beach fireworks show sounds mighty nice.

Ron, good luck with Gracie.  That seems like an impossible task.

Jerry, congrats on the wall progress.

How is the rest of the crew?

It's a bright morning with no rain in today's forecast.  I have a couple of 1:1 tasks outside; otherwise, I hope to spend some time upstairs.

Have fun,
mike

Rick, I have this neat app (called Rockd) that allows me to look up the rocks at a given location.  According to this, you were standing on "Granodiorite of Mount Evans batholith"  Granodiorite is a granitic rock that was formed under the surface.  A batholith is a big blob of granitic rocks, that is then exposed.  The rocks at Yosemite are good examples of exposed batholith.  And lots of the rocks here in New Hampshire (the Granite State) come from similar formations.  The ones you were standing on were formed over 1 billion years ago.

Ron, great to hear Gracie is doing well.  I know from experience it can be hard to keep an energetic dog quiet.

Hope to hear from Tom later today how he's doing.

In a bit, I'll head to Nashua for the meeting with university reps, then down to the hobby shop that's nearby.  First time I've been in a real hobby shop in maybe -5 years-.  This is the closest shop, and it's more than an hour away.

So that'll take up the better part of the day, when I get home, I'll probably mull over more forest-ation.  In particular, I should prepare Super Tree material for soaking.

Good afternoon, all. I came home last night to three overlapping meetings, one of which I missed because the Hampton NH tollgate was all jammed up - the cost of living free and dying is best borne by out-of-staters in the Legislature's opinion. So late to bed and more public business this AM.  It rained early, then a few dry hours with even some sun, then buckled down to rain again seriously mid-afternoon.  Mid-60s throughout.  With very little wind, a tree still came down a few hundred yards west of me. It fell across the road and the power wires affected, but my solar system handled it without a blink.

I've been doing paperwork, cleaning and organizing, so didn't even open the machine I use for the Forum till after 4 PM.  No modeling likely due to another meeting 7 PM on-line. But several things are fixed, others are put away, others will be recycled.  Back to trolley track work tomorrow...

Good morning everyone.

Where is everyone?
Hope you are all well.

61 in Evergreen, mix of sun and clouds with a high of 82.
Chance of rain in the PM.
Had a little much needed rain yesterday.

Coffee, sodas and OJ are ready.
Eggs the way you like, crispy bacon and/or sausage patties with home fries for breakfast today.

James, hope today is less hectic and the track work goes well.

Dave, thanks for the rock information.
Mount Evans is right next to Bierstadt.

Mike, hope there's more time spent upstairs today.

Jerry, nice work getting that second wall done.

Ron, I'm glad the patient got some attention.

Karl, hope you have another nice day today.

Philip, good news about the garden.

Curt, hope you find more bench time today.

Larry, hope Ellie's dentist visit went well.

How are the two Tom's?

After stopping at Costco I drove to the trailhead for the hike I was going to do today.
I saw I couldn't stay there for the night so decided to do the hike then.
Just got back to the van as the rain began.
There's a hike I want to do tomorrow that summits two 14ers.'
I'll drive to the trailhead and hopefully stay there tonight to get an early start tomorrow.
Very good chance there's no cell service there.

On July 2 I hiked a 13er (Mount Flora).
It's part of the Continental Divide Trail.
This is a picture showing some of the divide.

have a great day everyone.

Interesting picture, Rick.  It shows a definite difference on the two sides of the ridge.  Which way is north?  (I should be able to figure that out from my geology courses...  I'm guessing the glaciers moved from right to left (one of these days, I'll learn to tell my left from my right...), creating a cirque.  But don't quote me on that!)

Good Morning All,

Thanks for opening and breakfast Rick. Neat photo.

Started out the day with  walk at 76F and moderate humidity. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours at the workbench.

Today I've already cleaned floors and still need to reprogram the front door lock.

Not much else happening this way.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning everyone

Thanks for the coffee & breakfast Rick.
That is a great picture!

Morning Dave.

Curt do we have an update?

Weather in South Jersey is M. sunny/73.  Later on 83.
It will be a nice day to get out in the sun after 4 days of ugly weather.
Hopefully I will start the 3rd wall today but first I need to cut more shingles.

Everyone have a great day!! :)

It's cool and damp this morning with light rain rumored to be in the area. It appears the heat is back at homebase. The photo from the trail cam looked hazy in the night when a deer passed by. The grass there is growing, too.

I have a really slow filling toilet to diagnose and remedy if I'm able. The water here has little if any iron but does have a fairly high level of calcium content. So, fun day at hand. I can recall the township water back home was very hard on the moving parts on our pump valves in the fire trucks.

Little to add. Enjoy the day all, cool and dry.

Karl...at my "northern command " I have a well and when the water starts running slow it's the filter cartridge at the pressure tank that needs replacing...just a thought

Good Morning,

James hope the track work goes well.

Rick thanks for the coffee and breakfast. Nice photo and have a safe and enjoyable hike.

Dave geology courses sounds like fun. So does that make you an "official rock hound"; sorry showing my age.

Curt there's always something to be done around the ol' homestead.

Mike enjoy your day.

Jerry Have fun with the 3rd wall; I'll check your update when I'm finished here.

Karl minerals in water can raise havoc with plumbing but Terry made a good point about the filter.

Terry morning.

Morning Philip.

It's a sunny 81 with a high of 87 here. Was looking at the lawn this morning but it hasn't grown much so maybe next week. I hate mowing when I know the grass will get burned. Some bench time on tap as well as an update. Ellie's dental apt. went well and the tooth extraction went fine. Now she's on antibiotics for a few days just as a precautionary measure.

Have a great day!! Be well and be safe.

The courses were a blast, I really miss the experience.  I was not very good at mineralogy, which is the core skill for identifying rocks.  I seem to be better at larger scale things, like how landforms (hills, plains, mountains, etc) formed (Geomorphology.)

Thanks, Terry, the water flow issue is in the tank of the toilet. Inlet pressure is quite forceful when checked.
