Currently 78F heading into the 100's with the feel like temps for the next 6 days. I definitely felt it yesterday. Yesterday I reread the instructions closer then headed out to get stuff for the build. I think now I either have or have on order everything I need for the build.

Today after chores I plan on figuring out the NWSL True Sander. Up to this point I've had mixed results, but there are a  LOT of platform/decking legs in this build so consistency will be important. MOH and her BFF are off to IA today getting there late Sunday.

Rick as a homeowner the shopping is never done, but shopping lists really help me.

I hope everyone has a good day.
Curt, one trick for the True Sander and the Imation Disk Sander (among others):  Use double-sided Scotch Tape to tape a fence to the bed.  You can use thin styrene for that, with the piece of styrene at the correct length from the disk.  So when you're sanding a piece of wood and the piece sitting on top of that thin styrene finally drops into position with the back edge against the fence, you're done.  I've also used a taped-on fence to make sure I was sanding the right side of a 10x12 piece of wood (angles for a trestle bent.)  Again, if the wood fit snugly inside the fence, I was sanding the correct end.

Philip, was that the big Logan framing sander?  I have one, I use it a lot.  https://www.amazon.com/Logan-F200-2-Precision-Sander-Elite/dp/B0039ZV4Y4  They're expensive, though.  Getting one at a yard sale was probably a great find.

Tom, the weather here broke last night with the line of thunderstorms that washed out evening Scotch Club.

Good morning everyone,

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Rick, that is a nice farm you are living next to.

Current weather is 23c (73f) and sunny.  No modeling last night as a buddy called me and I ended up going out to enjoy some beers and live music.  Have a couple of errands to run and then the grass need cutting.  After that the rest of the day should be mine (famous last words).

Have a great day everyone.

Dave, The one Kelly had was all plastic. Was a cheapo, but it worked great. I think Blick sold them.

Quote from: jbvb on June 13, 2026, 08:12:18 AMAdirondack Railway seems to have bought into the same web presentation as Conway Scenic: you have to pick one of their offerings before they tell you dates it's available. So i think there'll be trains passing Mt. Arab after we leave, but not sure when, or whether there will be an empty equipment move before or after. :(
We stopped at the Tupper Lake depot, finding C-430 #2050 and RS-18u #1845 with two coaches preparing to depart for Thendara. Apparently this service lays over for 4.5 hours there before returning to Tupper Lake. There were also a handful of railbikes, but no employees or ads explaining what they did.  I was surprised to find coach ADIX 7202 bearing the name J. Reilly McCarren, and a little sad that employees I talked to didn't know who he was (my late friend, once President of the Gateway Western, then President of the Wisconsin Central, finally Chairman of the Board of the Arkansas & Missouri).   I guess the Finger Lakes RR named it, likely not long after his death in 2015.

Good morning everyone.

51 currently, sunny and 73 later.

Coffee, sodas and OJ are ready.
French toast with sides of crispy bacon and/or sausage patties for breakfast today.

James, glad you were able to find those engines.

Dave, sorry about the scotch club wash out but I guess the rain was needed.

ACLTom and Curt, you're right, I should make a list.

Philip, nice to read about the build progress.
Maybe a build thread?

Larry, did you get any bench time?

Karl, there are many farms here and it reminds me of the area where I grew up in NJ.

Mike, I think you had an MG too.
Which do you miss more?

How's everyone else?

Got the mower from my neighbor.
She also threw in a weed wacker and an extension cord.
After I come back from the gym this morning I try the mower out.

This is across the road from the farm I posted yesterday.

Have a great day everyone.

Morning Gents,

Rick thanks for the coffee and breakfast. Most farmers around here make hay rolls and some even cover them in heavy plastic so they don't get wet and mold.Yes I had quite the time at the bench yesterday. Good deal on the lawn equipment.

What's on your agenda?

It's 73 with a high of 80 with possible T-storms early afternoon. Hoping to make it to the bench this morning as work continues on the small shed. The rest of the day is up for grabs.

Have a great and safe day!! Be well and keep cool.

Good Morning All,

Thanks for opening and breakfast Rick. Was it made in your brand new kitchen?

Slept poorly but did the morning walk anyway because All I would of done is toss and turn. Walk was at 77F and very humid from the rain overnight. Yesterday I competed the pre-build steps (spraying roof and awning material).

Today after chores I start the first actual step. It is graining and coloring 76 pieces of 8" strip wood. :o This is the siding for the main building.

Dave thanks for the suggestion.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all,

Thanks for breakfast Rick. Glad you got the mower and weed wacker.

Our errands ended up at Lowes's in Apopka. They have the healthiest plants. I walked, rather she, walked away with five new rose bushes.

I'm still getting moisture out of the train shed. The good news is it no longer smells musty.

Time to pay a few bills.

Have a safe and happy Sunday everyone.

Rain and overcast in MI this morning, with 65o I mowed in the late morning then felt po'ly and napped half the afternoon.

Little planned until a later this afternoon 'surprise' B'day for a friend.

Looks like home, Rick.  Enjoy it.

My son is in NW lower Michigan and sent me this photo from encountering a Mom and 3 cub while trail riding

Sure a big image on the PC screen, it's cropped from an iphone shot.

We've never seen any that close in our times in the UP.

Good morning Rick, Larry, Curt, Tom, Karl and later arrivals. Sunny and headed for 90 after lunch, then clouds, thunderstorms and rain through the night.  I'm looking around the forum now, but as soon as the grass dries a bit more, it's Gravely time.

I got the trip pictures off my phone. It definitely dates me that the Alco C-430 I saw yesterday was listed in my first Diesel Spotters Guide but none had been built yet.  I have the Second also, but it's unshelved for an in-progress presentation on the development of streamlined diesel electric passenger trains.

Good Sunday morning to all. It's 55f degrees heading to 69 which is 14 degrees less than what the guessers had on the WeatherChannel app yesterday. Running the radar app it is showing the front that was supposed to be on top and rolling north of us is now south of us. Mother Nature again showing us who is in charge.

I didn't realize I've been gone since Thursday. The storms caused damage around the neighborhood with mainly branches down. The creeks though are plum full and the NWS is still issuing flash flood warnings for the area. The tornadoes that were seen were south east of us but hit fields and a couple farms. East of us and more northwest of Milwaukee had severe damage. Out on our property we had a few trees down and of course crushing some of the fences. But because we no longer have or board the horses it is not crucial we get out and fix them. Monday will be soon enough.

We are meeting for brunch the niece and her hubby now from Pasadena who is visiting her in-laws "summer" place 10 miles north of us on Lake Mendota. Not thrilled with the brunch place picked but it's about the people today not the food or lack of service. I will be telling that to myself the whole time we are there...

I tried to order some diesels last night after a 3 day search but my password was denied as not matching on a brass site I have used for years. These will be for me to be used on a friend's layout. The price differences between the brass units 2-Gp35's, a Gp30 and a Sd9 and the Scaletrains, Walthers Proto and Athearn Genesis plastic units are worth the work I need to put into the brass units getting them painted and converted to DCC. Just another bench project. I haven't painted brass in years!

Enjoy the day

Good morning everyone.

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Rick, have fun mowing the grass, it's a weekly exercise for me now.

Larry, Hope you make it to the bench this morning.

Curt, I don't miss the Florida humidity  ;D  After the wood is stained the fun part starts.

Tom, hope the train shed dries out soon.

Karl, have fun at the birthday party.

James, will we get to see pictures of those old beauties?

TomO, glad most of the bad weather missed you, Enjoy brunch.

Jerry, hope the room cools down enough so you can get some modeling done.

Current weather is 18c (64f) with rain in the forecast, glad I cut the grass yesterday.  I also went to Home Depot and bought some Milwaukee Packout units to use as a rolling tool box and model storage to use at train shows.  You can get a dolly for the system but I didn't feel like paying $269.00 (CDN) :o  for it.  For that price I'll make my own dolly, that might be this afternoons project.  I also spent some time cleaning up and reorganizing the train room.  I can actually walk around the layout now without tripping over things.  First thing up today is to order some foam so I can make inserts to protect the rolling stock while in transit.

Have a great day everyone.
