Well, our great October weather continues.  It's cooler than yesterday by about 15 degrees, but still sunny and dry.  Leaves are well past their peak, and the wind last night put a lot of them on the ground.  But our oaks, in particular, like to hold onto their leaves.  One tree tends to drop the majority of leaves in -March-.

Dover does its Trick-or-Treat the day before.  Weather was perfect, but we got fewer kids than I expected, so I have too much leftover candy.  Mostly they were neighborhood kids, we have a lot of preschool/grade school kids here, and that's nice.  But at least one of them next door is rapidly turning into a teenager, and has had a few loud parties over the summer.  One little devil lost his/her trident at the end of my driveway...

Scotch Club is on for the afternoon, so I'll try to get some time in the train room.  But first I need to listen to the legal update from last night.

Good morning Crew. It's damp and ugly outside. We may hit 55 today.

The grandson and family went east toward the big lake to play 2 hockey games. Last night his team played and won 3-1 at home and they look pretty good. No points for Brooks but he got good minutes on the ice and played both power play and penalty kills. He rang one off the crossbar. His line is normally the 3rd line but the 1st line winger went off early in the 1st so his coach moved him up. He's 5'4" but the other team wingers were all much taller. He's holds his own well. He texted later that he played well and more importantly to me he had fun.

Thanks again for the well wishes for Terry. She appreciates it and thanks u guys.

We have the grandkids here and at their place tonight till Thursday. Parents fly to Cancun at 3am Sunday morning. Brooks will miss his 2 hockey games as his soccer team plays its last game this seasom at noon tomorrow. Hey asked his hockey coach if it was ok and he said yes.

Between activities today I need to weather a couple bridge girders. The girders only will be installed and glued to the roadbed. It will be a ballasted deck. All I'm doing is the weathering and sealing. The parts not used on the bridge (everything else) will go into the unused bridge parts bin for kitbashing or detailing down the road!

Enjoy the day

I found an old used HO Ernst kit for the HO tiny Hustler on Ebay! Perhaps a miracle....

Cloudy day today and the politicians are out! Lock the doors and draw the blinds! :o

Good Morning;

We are sailing back to Tampa for end of our cruise. It has been a nice week. The Boss got some jewelry and I had time to work on an article I promised John S a long time ago on 3D printing. Still it will be nice to get home. Today I will be trying to use the internet to watch one of our grandkids playing in soccer tournament. He is a senior and apparently some colleges are interested in him.

When we get home I really need to clean up my workbench, I made a mess during last project. Now that it is done it will be time to work on the layout. Well off for another cup of coffee, hope everyone is enjoying a great day.

Another sunny fall day, wind yesterday blew a lot more leaves on the yard.  The oaks still ahve most of their leaves on the branches.

I'm off to the exercise machine, then some work on the river bed.  Scotch Club this afternoon.

Dover does Halloween the night before.  Here's Cyclops the Pumpkin, fresh from his appearance in "The Odyssey".  (A couple days ago, a squirrel gnawed where the eye is located, and that inspired me to do the one-eyed monster.)

Back from the ER. Drain was removed, some manual draining then re-bandaged to be changed daily. At this point I still need the surgery but I'm pain free. ;D

Nice day for an OPS session. Enjoyed it. Missed a big buck lunging out of the weeds!

In case anyone missed this in Baggage Car...
  Pretty cool...

Good Morning All,

Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, bagels, yogurt, OJ, and soda.

Hard to believe it's November already. Only 29 more days left in hurricane season. ;D Yesterday after the ER visit I straightened up and cleaned the workbench.

The next step in the kit is building the crane. It has about 40 parts between wood, metal, wire, and thread. I think it will be challenging to build.

This week I have a phone appointment with my PCP on Tuesday and an eye appointment on Friday.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning,

Curt thanks for the coffee and breakfast. Good to her you're pain free. Have fun at the bench and take your time on the crane and you'll do just fine.

What's your plans for the day?

It's a clear and frosty 32 with a high of 64. Have to drive the Escape to the Garage this afternoon so that'll be a slow ride so the exhaust pipe doesn't keep hitting the road surface w/ the flashes going. Other than that not much else going on here.

Have a great and safe day! Be well.

Curt it's great to read those words, pain free. That's a good thing

Good morning from my place in Wisconsin.

It's 51f degrees now and 70 later. Sunrise is at 6:32 because politicians can't agree. I was up early at 5:04 and am on my 2nd diet Dr Pepper!

The grandson has his last Fall season soccer game today. He will miss 2 hockey games. He played well in the 2 away hockey games yesterday with a goal and 2 assists. I'm hauling a total of 4 kids to soccer because their parents went to Cancun this morning!

A County deputy knocked on our door last night at 6. Seems we had a trespasser/poacher on the property hunting geese and duck out of season in our wetlands. Seems the big software company that we have an agreement regarding the wetlands called it in. I presume their security cameras saw it. We no longer fly over with the drones. Yes we want to press charges. It's been maybe 18 months since we've had any intentional trespassing. Trespassing is forgivable poaching however is not. We have in migration season and if the wetlands are wet the DNR has said a good 1500 daily water fowl visitors. It's very loud out there!

The grandson after soccer will have 6 slot car racers at his place from 3-8 with a hamburger break around 5:30. 1st session since June. The granddad who owns our local Culver's and Taco Bell will be the other race steward/chaperon. He's handling the food. The track to my knowledge has not been run since June. It should be fine. Practice starts at 3 and with racing starting around 3:30 because there are only 6 racers today. A normal session is 16-24! This was a last minute thing

No trick or treaters yesterday with us being 1600' off a County Road in the woods. Even the grandkids didn't stop by! When the deputy rang the door bell I actually flinched!

Enjoy the day

Rick

Good morning everyone.

54 now, cloudy and a high of 64 later.

Curt, thanks for the coffee and breakfast.
Glad you are pain free and I know you'll do a great job on the crane.

Larry, hope the drive to the mechanic goes well.

TomO, glad the poachers were caught.

Dave, how was scotch club?

Jim, welcome back.

Philip, congratulations on your Ebay find.

Greg, good morning.

How's everyone else?

Work yesterday was crazy.
Found out Halloween is one of if not the busiest days of the year.
Was only supposed to work 10-4, but someone on the night shift called out and they asked me to go home at 2 and come back at 5.
I get there at 5 and the place is a disaster.
Orders as far as the eye can see.
Orders ended up being 1/2 to hour late, but everyone was patient and waited for their order.
Another person showed up to help around 7:30 and that helped a lot.
Things finally slowed down after 9.
Another 10-4 day today.

Fallen leaves.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning everyone,

Hope everyone had a great Halloween.

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Curt, great to hear you are pain free and I'm sure you will have no issues building the crane.

Larry, sounds like the exhaust pipe is missing a bracket.

TomO, hope the kids enjoy the slot car racing.

Rick, hope today's 10-4 goes better than yesterdays.

Current weather here is -1c (31f) and sunny.  I've had a very busy few days with a work road trip last Thursday, getting a window changed out on Friday and a SLD meeting yesterday.  I think today, I'm going to take it easy.  Tomorrow, our alarm system will be getting a much needed upgrade.

I had I can't believe my luck moment yesterday.  A couple of weeks ago after the open house, Gracie decided to remove one of my train reference books off the shelf in the train room and shredded it to pieces. :o   I don't know what the book did to offend her, but it won't be offending her anymore.  This is a book I bought years ago and thought I didn't have much of a chance of replacing it.  After the SLD meeting I stopped at my local hobby store and lo and behold a brand-new copy of the book was on the shelf, on sale.  So, I bought it. 8)

Today's plan is to do the weekly grocery run and watch the Mexican Grand Prix.

Have a great day everyone.

The busiest daynight I ever worked in my 25 year Law Enf career was a Halloween, yet not a single call was related to anything Halloween. ::)

Rick welcome to the modern world of the weekend sudden onset flu epidemic.  Management is going to love your responsibility.

I enjoyed OPS yesterday, worked a few local/switch jobs.  I use my own power I bring with me and the new Atlas Trainmaster has done a fine job.  Nice momentum and enough keep-alive to negotiate the trouble spots always present.  I did a little gandy dancer work on one set of t/o points and all went well.  We had a nice crew from 8 to 82. 4' to 6'7" from local all the way to Sandusky, OH

The Doll and a couple of her flock are going off on a day trip shortly and I will be cleaning in my work room.  :-[  If no rain, outside as well.

Enjoy the day everyone.  Be safe.

QuoteI used to love the Sunday rides in the old Crew Van at the RRL Forums and still miss a few of the guys. It's too bad Bernd, Bruce, Pete and Jim among some others did not migrate over.

Hi Tom. I'm here. Came over when the RRL shut down. As a matter of fact I was on here before the RRL shut down.

I don't post as much do to the fact I'm more into using machine tools for my modeling. The general modeler on here does not have these types of tools on there bench. I'm positive that many would not spend the money that it costs to have these table top machines on their bench. Plus the fact you need to have a CAD/3D CAD program to draw up your part. Then you need a CAM program to get the G-Codes that will tell the machine what to do. You'll need tooling and you'll need space for that machine.

For me it's easy to use these machines since I was in the machine tool industry for over 30 years working for a manufacturer of gear cutting machines. I'm willing to bet the car you're driving has a gear train cut on those machines.

The other thing is my dad was a tool-n-die maker. He mostly worked in the tool room at work. When we moved into our house back in 1960 dad built a workshop attached to the garage. Dad was into RC model airplanes and built them from scratch. Dad was also interested in live model steam engines so of course he needed a lathe and mill. In building those model airplanes I was introduced to electronics of the RC kind. The planes had Heathkit RC receivers and servos that needed to be assembled. Dad had taught me at an early age to solder. I used to just solder pieces of brass together for the fun of it. It was good practice. My dad was a DIYer big time. I guess a lot of that rubbed off on me because I'm always thinking of doing it myself. That's one of the reasons in some of my postings of how I get to doing my builds. I don't go look to see where I can buy a product to fix a problem. I make that part myself if possible. I've even gotten into casting aluminum. Would love to try spin casting someday.

So if you follow any of my posts it will usually have some reference to the use of a machine tool or something made on that machine tool to help with producing that part.
