Dave as someone who has never lived in the northern part of the country what do you do with that massive pile of leaves?

Being a northern, they are burned if there is no burning ban. Some send them to the land fill. The smart ones compost them and use them for mulch the following years in the flower beds to keep the moisture in.

Burning leaves is generally discouraged these days.  It's very dry here, so I certainly wouldn't want to risk starting a brushfire.  Here in Dover, you can take the leaves to the recycling center (formerly known as 'the dump' and then 'transfer station'.)  They grind them and turn them into mulch, I think.  Or there's a place in my back yard where I dump them if I'm raking myself.

Thanks guys. I was thinking they had to be bagged, that's enough reason not to live up there! ;D

A lot of people bag them up, and some towns will pick up bagged leaves from the street.  (Bagging is much easier than raking.)

Nothing says FALL like a nice smoky leaf fire. I grind mine up while mowing they are good for the lawn. I was going to sweep up some with the lawn sweeper today but i got chilled

Rick

Good morning everyone.

55 now, clouds and rain most of the day with a high of 57.

Coffee, sodas and OJ are ready.
Breakfast burritos filled with scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and mild salsa for breakfast today.

On the topic of leaves, I used to mulch them with the mower or leaf vacuum and pile them in the corner of the yard.

Bernd, good morning.

Curt, hope the call with your PCP goes well.

Karl, is the freezer breaking recent?
You've got the right gear for cleaning out spoiled food.

Greg, hope you're not having any issues with flooding.

TomO, the van is my only vehicle.
I usually walk the .9 miles to work unless it's raining.

Dave, I'm guessing you have a yard service that rakes the leaves.

Jerry, hope you ended up with some ME time yesterday.

ACLTom, thanks for the Bill update and I hope eventually he does improve.

Ron, alarm updated?

How's everyone else?

A quiet, rainy and boring day here yesterday.
The highlight was getting a check in the mail from the title company we used at closing.
No idea why I got it but I'm not complaining.
the lowlight was finding out it would cost about $2,000 to fix my camera.
They said it needed a new power supple.
I told them to have the camera returned and I'll get another estimate from another shop.
A 9-4 day at work today.

I hope I didn't already post this one from Palisades SP.

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning All,

Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, bagels, yogurt, plain cake donuts, OJ, and soda.

It's been a soggy 2 days. One area SE of me on the coast has received abt 30 inches with more on the way. Needless to say they have widespread flooding and have been declared a disaster area by the state

Yesterday I never made it to the workbench but I hope to today. I have the phone appointment with my PCP at 1130 today.

Election Day. Too bad none of the above was an option on the ballot. At least the ads will be over.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Here's a skunk story for you I was in the living room and heard scratching. I looked around and thought one got stuck behind the fridge but no I finally pulled open the freezer drawer and a skunk came running out of the void behind the drawer. He could of froze to death there. That has never happened before in the 2 years we've had the fridge.

TomO/Tloc

Good morning from dreary wet Wisconsin. 64f degrees now 68 later with rain most of the daylight hours.

Terry has a last minute chemically induced heart scan test today. They don't want her on a treadmill today. This is the "final" qualification for another lung surgery on the 12th. The doctors have gone from no issues to checking everything again! Extra cautious or let's milk the insurance is hard to say. But after Medicare pays we are self pay as supplemental insurance dropped us to start 2026 and another carrier was out of this world $$$ nuts.

Test at 11 and she wants lunch out afterward but We'll see how she feels.

Morning all,

Thanks for breakfast Curt and Rick. I'll have a little of both.

Rick, I believe Bill is as good as he ever will be. His attitude is excellent but that won't make him walk any better.

TomO, all the best for Terry - thoughts and prayers for you both.

Emee has a vet app. at 8:50 this morning so I better get ready.

Hope all have a safe and happy day.

My best wishes for Terry, too, TomO.

This morning it's 55F with thin high clouds on the NH seacoast.  Chickens and cats are taken care of, trash yet to go out. My daughter works at the Town Hall, so she and I set up the polling booths yesterday. The other selectman in town (one is away) and I will split supervising shifts from 11 till 8 PM, then take the booths down and re-set the room for the tally.  I got back to work on the NMRA Achievement Program last night, just paperwork for Structures. I'll bring my laptop so I can continue during slow periods - Selectmen just supervise and answer questions in NH.

Good Morning,

Breakfast this am is assorted bagels with pretty much any type of smear you want; the beverages are at the end of the counter.

James nice you volunteer to be at the polling places; we're going to vote this afternoon and see if we can't oust the current Gov.

What's you plans for the day besides getting out and vote.

It's a cloudy 60 with a high of 66. Maybe some bench time this am then like I mentioned voting this afternoon then maybe dinner out locally. Received a call from my Mechanic yesterday and hopefully the new exhaust system won't cost as much as I initially thought. Other than that not a whole lot else going on.

Have a great and safe day!! Be well and DON"T forget to get out and vote.

Morning all.....

No chance of flooding here Rick, our little 1/2 acre slice of heaven sits on a sand dome that is over 12' deep and drains easily, even during hurricanes.

Unlike up north, we are used to seeing sunshine with very brief periods of solid gray overcast. Too many days in a row without the sun, like the last week, is not fun for many of us down here.  :o
