My next scene I will be working on is of a sand and gravel dealer that was in the town of Mauston, hence the name Mauston Sand and Gravel. I will be using a Walthers bulk load conveyor kit and scratch building an office, scale house, and the gravel bins. This will sit across the alley from the Co-op store, in real life it was a few blocks away.
I have the base set into the foamboard, had to trim it some for the backdrop.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1794.jpg&hash=67e395a1b7637401aba531a45d54404896065c6a)
The foamboard had a slight dip in it against the back drop, I will fill that in with a little chalk.
Installed the railings and the lower conveyor belt.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1795.jpg&hash=240df1e41388c2dbb362eb95463b09060784fc9c)
scratchbuilt the holding bins, now to get them stained and weathered.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1796.jpg&hash=0ed8662796a746841162de717e2747d2aae14098)
This is looking pretty cool. I like the way you are modifying it to fit the space. I love scratchbuilding and those bins look great!
Bob C.
Andy,
That's going to be a very neat looking addition to the layout. Looks great at this point.
Tom ;D
That's guy's for looking in, still a ways to go.
Moving along at a steady pace. I have the bins stained and in place, the spur track ballasted, gravel crossing in and a small shed in the background.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1797.jpg&hash=ff567245417d480515df16b5f12b0b1669ef6cf0)
Now to fill those bins up.
I have the bins filled up, the second conveyor is in, and two different loaders. Will be starting on the office scratch build next.

looks great Andy
rich
Thanks for stopping by Rich.
Another great scene developing.
I have the wall blanks cut out using 1/16 thick basswood lap siding.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1799.jpg&hash=282dde867c6122ae903f86eee39710e6af2d5559)
Very nice - I'm following along.
Glad to have you John.
Andy,
Perfect timing ! Need a load of trap rock gravel for my 120' driveway. Please advise estimated delivery charges. Can we get some ? ;D
Tom
Tom, it might take awhile using 1/87 scale dump trucks. Thanks for stopping in.
I have the wall end caps on and the roof angles cut. Also the door and window openings are in.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1800.jpg&hash=429abb2a148235054bc07770869fcea188f9a881)
now to start bracing.
All the bracing is on, painted the inside black and the outside Apple Barrel acrylic Coffee Bean. Then assembled the whole thing.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1801.jpg&hash=e99576d30850c114ecc1148e700ec1982aeda41a)
next up is the foundation. just plain concrete.
Cement foundation and step are added and the windows and doors using Apple Barrel Palm Leaf green for the color.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1802.jpg&hash=0221057cc5a60a0715486f33cfa040153bf42556)
I finished up the office building, pictures front and back.

I am waiting on some trucks from American Prototype so I can get some scenery done, in the mean time I am building some more fences.
I don't care what you do Andy , just keep doing it ;D ;D ;D
That is one solid model in every sense of the word. I like those Apple Barrel acrylics but sadly they seem to have disappeared from the UK after a brief presence.

Thanks Barry,
I have used the Apple Barrel paints for years, I like them better than all the other craft paints out there and they are cheap.
I need about 70 feet of fence to separate the gravel co. from the residential houses. I was going to scratchbuild them board by board but looking through my box of tricks I found enough fencing to do it. I found one section from Rusty Stumps and the rest from RS Laser kits. Might as well use them up. I am gluing on a little heavier post on each.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1806.jpg&hash=d35310baf2179fbb43457d4b06207addfd117e9e)
I guess you can see in the picture the two trucks I was waiting for, a 1953 Studebaker and a 37 chevy 2ton dump. will be starting on them shortly.
fencing all in.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1807.jpg&hash=031b3b7f142eb84312edac708d2c736d68fdc17f)
Things left to do, build two trucks. paint 5 little people, build a scale platform and scale house, bunches of junk and scenery. Now on to the 53 Studebaker pick up.
Getting a little more scenery done and the 53 Studebaker.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1810.jpg&hash=d22d0a05e07b05f96984d196c82ac73f15ca6db4)
Getting everything placed in the scene and I found an empty corner that has to be filled. Figured I would put in a diesel fuel barrel for the loader. Went to the scrap box and came up with this.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1809.jpg&hash=b9521ed6752ebdd1a3a801a66428cb91651b735b)
The cylinder is from an adding machine paper roll, two supports and a vent from a Tichy tank kit, a piece of .020 styrene and something that has two I beams on it. See if I can make a fuel barrel out of this.
Andy,
Mauston Sand and Gravel is looking good. Keep it up!!!!!!!
Thanks for stopping by Steve.
I traced the diameter of the cylinder onto the .020 styrene sheet and rough cut it out. Then glued it to the cylinder.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1811.jpg&hash=3ee023542e8acf87a4ff9f6abfa649639df54282)
After it dried I trimmed it close with a sprue cutter then filed and sanded.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1812.jpg&hash=c2b2d7cf7970cd634130a783d19f9a9475501510)
Next I cut the I beams off of whatever this was.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1813.jpg&hash=a402e810b5630016d0768c3f2539e2917c16f17e)
After I cleaned up the flash I added the Tichy tank car supports.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1814.jpg&hash=d47121398ba2c6147930ebf1053ac8ac18ded642)
Tank is on the legs, now for some paint.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520Sand%2520and%2520Gravel%2FDSCF1815.jpg&hash=7649b62c7740d40c8e640bebb1ef9adc826c156c)

Only modelling opportunities.
Didn't feel much like sleeping so I finished the scale shed.
