This will be my build challenge. I'm changing up the water side of the building with the addition of a door and platform at the 1st floor level and other details to the building. This will eventually be part of a small diorama.
Whats in the box
Alright !!!!!
Is this where we post our challenge entry? I have my kit ready and today I did some research on how to build it. It's on!

Sorry Jaime but this is my build thread. I've started a thread on the Contest Board called Build Challenge 2016. Post a photo of your kit or idea and then start a separate build thread.
I decided which door I wanted to use on the water side of the building and chose the Tichy Train Group door #8038
I then put a piece of masking tape across the back of the water side wall and marked out where I wanted to make cuts for the door.
About the only thing the tape did was it kept me from losing the narrow piece of the wall when it broke off. I glued a piece of bracing on each side of the doorway and let it dry before sanding the doorway up to final fit the door.
I then finished bracing the walls.
I then took a small clean brass wire brush I picked up at the Big Orange Box Store, and scrubbed the clap board to add grain. A stainless brush might have done better.
The corner boards will be the same color as the rest of the building so I added them.
So the floor doesn't curl up, I added bracing to that as well. It was at this point I realized I made the wall bracing to long. :o
So then I carefully cut back the bracing and trimmed up the corner bracing
Then it all went outside to have the inside of the walls painted Flat Black.
After a brief interruption, I'm going to try and post this for the 3rd time. After the black set up I applied 2 heavy doses of MicroMark's weathering grey stain.
Then came a thin wash of Testor's ModelMaster Intermidate Blue
Time to do some more, I'll post later. ;D
Cool looking building. I will be following this.

Thanks Jim.
With the paint set up, I pulled out the sign and sanded the backside of it with fine sand paper.
I then applied a piece of transfer tape.
I cut the sign down and applied to the building, burnishing it into the clap boards
Then another layer of weathering was applied by lifting some random clap boards and dry brushing Ceramacoat Drizzle Grey onto the walls.
When that dried, I then applied a light A&I wash. It was at this point I realized I forgot to put nail holes on the water side wall. :o 2 steps forward one step back :-[ Up next, windows and assembly.
Looking great! I really like Groovie's kits, and you're doing a very nice job on this one! Keep the photos coming.

Great job so far Raymo! I think Groovy has some great structures.
Tom ;D
Yes, Groovy does make some great structures. ;D
When all 4 walls are put together the right way they make a basic box. ;D
When it comes time to door the windows and doors, I like to cut them from the sprues and clean them up before paint.
I save the nice cardboard advertisements that kit manufacturer's send out with their shipments for painting these items.
The windows and doors were painted with some white primer. I'll let that set up and then start the weathering.
Dan
Did you use a rattle can to paint the white primer?

Yes, Valspar White primer.
Evening Dan, You canning company is coming along very nicely. I really like the blue color that you achieved on the siding !! Blue can be a tough color to use but you have pulled it off exceptionally well ...
Keep up the good wrk as I'll be following along,
Best,

Dan,
Any up dates on the build?
Tom ;D
Yes sir, I've been working on it and taking photos, but I've been also playing catch up on yard work. I'll try and post the photos tonight.
So it's been a couple of weeks since I posted photos on my build but I have been working on it. When I last posted I had painted the window and doors. I gave these a light A&I wash.
When that had dried, I filled the windows with Frosted Gallery Glass.
After they set up overnight, I installed the window and doors to the building.
That really looks great. Unusual color, but I love it!
John
Then I painted a couple of pieces of 1/8 x 1/32 strip wood White. These will represent frieze (freeze?) boards at the tops of the walls. They also received a A&I wash. They were then installed.
The only thing I didn't like is the frieze boards stick out past the corners. I thought about running these out past the corners but I didn't. The other way would be to do like Doug Foscale does by shortning the walls by 1/8th and using a piece of 1/16 x 1/8 stripwood in its place

John
Thanks John. I like this blue, it's a WW 2 aircraft color.
I then painted the roof card and a couple pieces of 1/16 square this Sea Glass color to represent aged copper.
I thought the roof needed a little more detail, so I added some 3/16 x 1/16 stripwood and painted that. I also added the roof card to the structure.
Then that was hit with the A&I wash.
That's it for now, next up, finishing up the roof, and building the water tank.
I also purchased these A.M.B. wooden vats in both H.O. and N scale. My thought was to build a platform off to one side of the building for these to hold the bait fish.
Raymo
Looking good - I love the extra tanks - it's all about the details.
Raymo,
Very nice job on the build. The extra roof trim is a plus for sure.

Those would make great hot tubs on a more modern layout ;D
Great idea with the tubs.
Hi Raymo:
This is coming out nice. I like the color combo. Can't wait to see it finished.
Karl
Really liking the look of this one. Nice job Raymo!
John
Raymo:
The kit build looks great. I have some of those wooden vats, that I used for pickle vats on my N scale layout.
Stay cool and run steam....... 8) 8)

Time for a quick update on the roof. I was also going to show some modifications that I'm doing to the water tank but I wasn't happy with the photos, so I need to re-take those. Anyway, I sprayed the supplied paper for the roof with grey primer and flat black paint in an erratic pattern.
I don't like the look of tar paper when it's cut a scale 3 foot wide, I feel it looks to wide. I like the look of a scale 2 and 1/2 feet wide better, so that is how I cut the strips.
Three strips of transfer tape cover the roof to attach the tar paper.
Then the tar paper is attached.
After the roofing was trimmed to the edges of the roof, I dry brushed some white over the tar paper.
I then used a felt tip pen to make the roof look like the edges of the tar paper have had been sealed with hot tar.
That's it for now, next up more roof weathering and water tower changes.
Raymo
It's coming along nicely. I like the way the felt pen highlights the edges.
Dan, very nice !! your canning company is looking very nice so far, and I really like the color blue for the exterior ...
Catch you soon,

Nice work on the roofing material. I like the way you painted it a couple different shades then cut it up for use.
Nice job on the roof Dan. Well done.
Tom ;D
The roof looks great Dan! I really like the results you achieved. :D
