Definitely will follow along, have 2 FOS kits I plan to build, and a couple others on my 'to buy' list, but not built one of Doug's kits yet.

Hope the kit arrives soon for you, 17 days seems sort of long.

Built that when it came out. It's one of my favorite FOS kits. Enjoy your build. I probably have a photo of my build somewhere.

The signs that get me are the ones that claim -

Live Nude Girls!

Like they are going to show dead nude girls. I've seen my share and they ain't purty! :'( :'(   Another curse from my Crime Scene Technician days. Just another reason I studied hard for the Lieutenant's exam.

   What loft doors ?

I've taken a quick gander thru the kit.  Not exactly a lot of pictures to help with the instructions.  There is a pair of doors and a single door on the bottom of wall W12.  I think these are the doors he's referring to.  I see  a pair of doors and two single doors on the parts sheet along with the two sets of triple doors.  The other single door goes on W10.  I don't remember if Bob B. did a build on this, perhaps he can help as well.

Thanks Jeff. If it's a loft how could there be a door without a fire escape ?  I'm confused

But it must mean the doors at the bottom of W12  What else is there.  The small door must be a stage door.

I don't think he meant to say "loft doors".  At this point I'd just add the front entrance doors to the front wall and then the doors to the side wall and rear wall.  That should leave you one extra which goes on the roof top access shed.  Hope this helps!  I had a thread on this one on the old forum but I'm certain it's long since been turned into electronic dust.   :'(

I didn't use yellow paint, as they had suggested, because I didn't want it to look like a Chinese restaurant. I use a wash of alcohol and ink then I painted the walls with DecoArt Buttermilk. The walls look old and faded. Just what I wanted.

Candy, here's the original msg with Raymo's thought, which he posted on 9/12 in the Baggage Car. It just took off from there.

"...Good Morning forumite's. At the Narrow Gauge Convention, I had conversations with Jimmy and Jaime about doing a "Build Thread Challenge" to try and get some build threads on the forum for people to use for reference. Jaime's only concern would it would fall flat like his Tyco building challenge a couple years ago. Here's what I'm thinking, Build anything, just do a build thread, that's the challenge. No judging, no prizes, just helping other people providing them with a reference for their builds. It can be anything from a Bar Mills Basic to a Fine Scale kit. We would start Oct. 1st and the challenge would go to the end of January. My first thought was New Years but my thinking is December is a blur for most of us with the holidays so modeling takes a step back. Let me know if you think it will work, Raymo..."

I attached the turret to the walls yesterday. I was very careful to make sure the walls were held vertical and plumb as there was very little support on that end of the structure.

I like the photo Candy , but I don't think it works as a sign as well as the other on , maybe because of the gray background.

I agree with Jan.  The background color is too dark to go with the Building colors.

Candy.... Looking great so far. I built this kit a few years ago. Had a really fun time too. I will see if I have some pics on my computer and share with you. As for the clipboard..... He may mean to mount the sign on a piece of cardboard that you may have lying around. I can't remember back that far as to what I did. Sorry....

Or it could be clapboard, which would be a scrap piece of wall siding.

Candy,

I am sure Doug meant to say "chipboard" and that is the "cardboard" that you used for the roof.  You should have some extra pieces in the kit, if not any piece of thin cardboard will work.

Your build is looking great.

Agreed.  Find a tablet (a pad of paper type tablet, not the iPad type of tablet  ;D ) and take the cardboard off the back and use that.

You did a very nice job on the build, well done. One little suggestion though.

Take some red paint and touch up the bare chip board under the turret. The unpainted portion is noticeable.
