I received this kit today in the mail. All I did today was open the kit, separate parts, removed the walls from the sprue and read the instructions several times. I'll get started with the bracing tomorrow.
I thing I don't understand is that the wide loading door is made out of a cardboard type material. Everything else (doors and windows) are from Tichy. In fact, the last Fos scale model I built had the exact door, but it was from Tichy.

Curt,
I'll follow along on the adventure. Reading Bob said this was a fun kit to build.
Tom ;D
Bwahahahahaha! Look what arrived here, too. This will be the second one of these I've built...both for other guys.
It's a race Dave! ;D. I ordered a couple of doors from Tichy. I have not had much luck working with cardboard.
Have at it, Curt...this is down my list a bit. Following...
On a related note, Doug's been including these great little advertisements in his kits. Here's my latest favorite...
I'll be following along kit. I have one of these in my stash to build for myself someday but that won't happen anytime in the near future. It's an interesting little structure and I like the footprint (long and narrow). :D
Afternoon All,
Thanks for the follow Bob, Dave, and Tom. There won't be a race Dave since I tend to be pretty slow building kits. Case in point, this picture represents 2 1/4 hours work.
Today obviously I attached the bracing and sprayed the inside of the walls. Although it's not a great pic the colors I will be using are on the wood scraps. The scraps have 3 coats of A&I before a color wash. My thoughts are that this will be in the yard so the building will be pretty dirty and not well maintained.
No modeling tomorrow. I have been directed by higher authority (my wife) that I am needed at youngest grandson's school to help inventory library books for the end of the school year (next week).

Afternoon All,
Well, I'm a bit embarrassed :o, the Tichy doors came in today and I decided to test fit one before painting and sure enough it was too big. So much for eyeballing it. So I took another look at the door provided to discover it was actually wood...very thin wood, but wood...oops!
Today I spent a couple of hours putting 3 coats of A&I on all the wood walls, trim pieces, and wood detail parts. After that I sprayed the plastic windows and door with the wood colored undercoat.
Tomorrow I plan on starting the trim painting.
Curt,
If it isn't to late, I have a huge assortment of Tichy doors and windows. You are welcome to come by and see if you can use any of them.
Anyway, I'm following along. Oops, I already said that last week.
Tom ;D
Tom,
That is a very kind offer and I really appreciate it. I'm going to use the provided door first and if I can't make it work I will take you up on your offer.
I do have a question for you- Is your depot on legs or is it flush to the ground? I don't remember from my visit.
Thank you again.

Curt,
The Yard Office #2 is on very short legs/posts. I believe they come with the kit.
The Tichy stuff is here if you need them.
Tom ;D
Afternoon All,
Today I spent about 90 minutes applying paint to the trim pieces and the walls. After that I glued in the window frames and small door. Finally I put together the door I was worrying about (I tend to be a worrier) and it was actually very easy, just several pieces. I actually like the feeling of depth with it.
No modeling tomorrow. Sunday I plan on installing signage, window "glass" and shades.

It looks like the wall color washed out in the photo (antique gold).
Curt,
I was able to lighten the picture a little so others can see the Antique Gold.

That door is kind of a lazerboard material, if I remember right? I knew you'd be okay with it. 👍🏻

Nice build so far Curt. Keep the progress photos coming!
Tom- Thanks for the helping hand. It looks like you are also more computer literate than I am.
Dave & Mark- Thanks for following along and the kind words.
Donato- Aren't those pictures the truth!
Curt,
I like your color choice, walls look good.
Curt,
I have an inventory of mis-order items filling my house; who needs that Veg-matic I got at the fair? :P
BTW: the hardest structure builds are the simplest ones, you have no excuses for messing it up. The complex ones are much easier because you can always blame the poor instructions, short-cuts and missing pieces as why it is not perfect. (I like complex structures, hehe.)

I was thinking the same thing but I was too lazy to dig thru my stash of unbuilt kits to confirm it. The nice thing about doors like this, that are constructed in layer, is that it makes it really easy to get a neat finish on a two color paint scheme. :D
Jerry- Thank you.
Marty- Like you, this was not my first mistake ordering something.
Bob- Thanks for following.
Afternoon All,
I spent a couple of hours today putting in windows, shades, and wall trim, so it looks like the next step is putting the walls together which I did a dry run on since the building has a unique shape (basically 2 buildings connected together).
No modeling tomorrow. I will be at the elementary school again inventorying library books. I thought the school was done this Friday but it's actually the 31st.

Hi Curt:
Walls look great. I still have my model. If you want I will post a photo here with your permission.
Karl
Go ahead Karl. No problem.
Hi Curt:
OK I will do that. Thanks for allowing me.
Karl
Afternoon All,
Today the volunteering was canceled so I was able to spend a little over 3 hours on the kit. Today had some up's and downs. I realized first thing this morning that I had spray painted black the upper inside wall that sits above the flat roof, soooo...3 coats of wood colored paint to cover the black, 3 coats of A&I, and wall color dabbed on. That took almost 90 minutes.
After that I put the walls together and discovered a mistake in the directions concerning the trim on one of the middle pieces, not a big deal. I pulled it apart fixed it. After I put it together again I did not notice that the opposite side wall as not completely flush, so it has a slight angle. I did a quick check with the flat roof base and it's not noticeable.
I decided that I am going to do the roof the way that Dave HWCRR did on his roofing thread. I really liked the way that came out. I'm in the process of putting the A&I on the cut brown paper (Used the paper provided in the kit as a template).
I don't know if I will be volunteering tomorrow or not.
This is the area the building the kit will sit in.

Afternoon All,
Today I put the 2 roofs together (tar paper, weathering and mounting). I also figured out the mounting for the floor. That will probably be the only thing I do tomorrow since I'm visiting Tom tomorrow afternoon. I also want to stop at the LHS and get some Tamya paint so I can try a technique for peeling paint I watched online for a future project.
The weathering is heavy but remember the building is heavily weathered and not well maintained. The tar paper is brown wrapping paper.

Hi All:
Curt gave me permission to post my Yard Office 2. So here it is.
Karl
Curt,
Nice job on the weathering. It looks like a structure with all the soot, dirt and grime for the era and location between the tracks.
Tom ;D
Very nice Karl. While I was at Tom's today I took pictures of his (built by ReadingBob) to help me with all the extra details.
Great progress Curt..... 8)
Afternoon All,
Today I spent a couple of hours working on all the details for the kit. I painted everything and it's all ready to to be mounted or placed with the building.
The only "construction" items left are to add the feet under the building and the 2 exhaust stacks. I will probably finish on Sunday, since my Saturday is already spoken for.
Sorry I forgot to thank Tom and Greg for their kind words.
Afternoon All,
I finished the kit today, and it took about 15 hours to complete. I found it very interesting and a little more complex than my first build. On tap for June is another FOS scale yard office for the roundhouse area (still need to purchase). The building looks fairly straight forward but I intend to try a peeling paint covering on it. I should also receive 2 weigh station offices (Blair Line) for Father's Day (fingers crossed).
I apologize for the separate posts with the pictures, but when I try to load them from my phone I always get a picture size error. Based on that I use Photobucket, but that means I can only do one photo at a time...frustrating to say the least. This is why I almost always only post one picture. Well here goes:
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1082.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj372%2Fcurtwbb%2FFOS%2520Yard%2520Office%2520-%25202%2F20170527_142646_zps9rctfxnw.jpg&hash=05c1e7920d33e25f403b5859f83ea8a71dce588d) (http://s1082.photobucket.com/user/curtwbb/media/FOS%20Yard%20Office%20-%202/20170527_142646_zps9rctfxnw.jpg.html)
This side is to the front of the layout.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1082.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj372%2Fcurtwbb%2FFOS%2520Yard%2520Office%2520-%25202%2F20170527_142601_zpsaiwrqkca.jpg&hash=6cf05b0b375cda431b4d6502c1de57a9585b18e1) (http://s1082.photobucket.com/user/curtwbb/media/FOS%20Yard%20Office%20-%202/20170527_142601_zpsaiwrqkca.jpg.html)
I installed the wall lamp a little low, but have to live with it now. Not noticeable from the layout perspective.

Curt,
Nicely done, it will fit perfectly with the PRR. For only your second craftsman kit, you done very good. ;D ;D
Tom ;D
Thanks Tom for your kind words.
I forgot to mention I built the top of the coal bin to look more realistic. At some point I will probably do the walls the same way. This is the last side. Tomorrow I will place it on the layout but first I will probably need to remove some ground cover so everything sits properly. I will add people at that point.

great work! I love how dirty it all is! This is going to look great when its "planted" on your layout
Really nice job building & weathering this building. I've got this in my stash so I'll come back to get some pointers from this build.
Bob C. And Mark thank you for your kind words.
Nice job Curt! Be careful, these things can be addictive! ;D ;D ;D
I'm looking forward to running into you down at Tom's one of these days.
Great looking little structure. I made need to get one. :)
Jeff
Curt, nice job. Keep them coming!
Afternoon All,
Donato and Jeff thank you for your kind words.
Bob, thank you also and I would like that, but since you work and Tom and I are retired it will likely be based on your availibility.
Here is the building in place on the layout.

Curt,
Perfect spot for it. Nice and grimy with all the steam locos around.
Tom ;D
Nicely done, Curt. Looks great in its new home. 👍🏻
Great looking scene Curt.
Nice job Curt. I also look forward to meeting you soon as I am an SBG member on hiatus. ;)
John
Great looking scene Curt.....see you at Tom's . 8)
Good looking building Curt.
Meet you at Toms one of these days.
Jim
Thank you very much for your kind words Dave, Tom, Janbouli, John, Greg, and Jim.
Fits right in .... !!
Thanks Donato.
