Hi All:
Here's my next project. It's A rather large kit on a 14 X 21 inch base which is cut and measured for the wall & pier system. It was modeled after A Lumber & Supply Yard in Sellersville, Pa very close to where I live. Drove by it many time. I is gone as it has been torn down.
Karl
I'm looking forward to you build - this one is on my short term build list.
Looking forward to it. Our Baxter (left)...😁
Cool... You'll be done waaay before I get mine done.
Great , I'll be along for the ride.
I'll be following along as well.
Big build Karl, looks like fun.....I'll be watching. :)
Any more room in the lounge car? I'd like to come along for the ride.
Wow!! Seems to be a lovely kit...
Watching!!! :) :) :)
Karl, that is an awesome kit. I will be looking in.
Hi To everyone who has posted they will be following along:
We will see how I do with this one. I have cut the 14" X 21" base and applied some of the concrete walls. Have six piers to add in the middle.
Karl
Karl,
Somehow I know that your build of this kit will be completed before the same kit on the my shelf gets any of the wood pre stained... ;D
Looking forward to see you work and share your magic again ! :)
Tommy
Karl,
I'm in on the job of following as well. My Karl file is getting pretty big. What kit will you start next week when this one is finished? ;D ;D ;D

Tom ;D
Come on Tom.....we're talking about Karl here, it won't take him till next week to get this one done. ;D ;D ;D
Hi Guys:
I don't know the last one took me almost a month and this one is a lot bigger.
Karl
Hi Karl,
From the pics, the rust seems a bit intense. You may want to tone it down a bit if you can.
Frank
Looking forward to following along.
Hi Frank:
Will do.
Thanks:
Karl
Hi Gearld:
Glad to have you aboard.
Karl
Hi All:
Got A lot of pain in the neck work finished today. Kit calls for plywood but I used black Board with foam core.
Karl
Karl,
Looking great. The black foam board will certainly make the diorama much lighter.
Tom ;D
Hi Tom:
Thanks buddy appreciate it. Yes much lighter and A lot easier to cut.
Karl
Hi All:
This will be going on the shelf for a few days as Doug asked me to build the new background kit Murdock Fasteners.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Got a little more work done on this one. Added the rest of the concrete trestle walls.
Karl
Hi All:
Got the rest of the trestle walls installed and my 2 gravel piles per the instructions. They are dark as they are not dry yet.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Scenery is finished between all the piers. Not dry yet but here's a photo.
Karl
How did you do the piles? Is there a former underneath the gravel?
dave
Looking good.
Hi Dave:
Yes there is a former under the gravel. It is A wet plaster mound. I put a scoop of wet spackling between the piers with a teaspoon and the shaped them with a popsicle stick. The the gravel was applied. After that Straight Rubbing alcohol was applied and then Woodland Scenics scenic cement was applied over that. Then A light dusting of more earth and other scenic materials.
Hi curt:
Appreciate the compliment.
Thanks:
Karl
Looks great Karl!
Hi Mark:
Thanks much appreciated.
Karl
Karl, if compliments were all worth a nickel, you would be able to treat us ALL to the next Expo!!!
Hi Donato:
Thanks for the compliment. Send you nickel in.
Karl
Hi guys:
Got some work done today. The stringers are assembled and glued to the concrete piers. Also added the 2 1/4" ties. NBW's were also added. These are not from the kit. I found these in my stuff. I really liked the nice large backing plates.
Karl
Karl,
This is really looking great my friend.
Tom ;D
Good job, it's coming to life.
Hi tom & curt:
Thanks for the compliments as usual. much appreciated.
Karl
...another nickle for you!
Hi Donato:
Thanks buddy I'll throw it in the can.
Karl
Hi All:
Ties are installed. Took a while as there are a lot of them. Rails are painted and drying to be installed later.
Karl
Very nice work.
Hi Curt:
Thanks much appreciated.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Rails are laid, catwalk is in and the concrete bumper is installed.
Karl
Karl,
Looking good as always.
Tom ;D
Hi Tom:
Thanks. starting on the shed next.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Opps forgot I had to do the handrails before I started the shed. Here they are installed. Now on to the shed.
Karl
Karl, any tips on adding those rails to the existing structure? That strikes me as difficult...
dave
Hi Dave:
Thanks for asking the photo above is not the whole platform. See the previous photo. The building starts at the end of the cat walk. You will see how it works in my next photo when I finish building the end wall frames.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Got the shed over the track pretty much finished except for the roof and some details. Lots of work Board by board construction.
Karl
Looks great Karl.
Hi Curt:
Thanks appreciate the compliment.
Karl
Looking good Karl. Love your subtle touch with the paint, stain, and washes.
I've only built this once. I wish I could get this for a reasonable price. Having built a number of scenes from scratch I just remember how well designed this kit was - and how much I learned.
--Rich
Hi Rich:
Thanks buddy. Your compliment is much appreciated.
Karl
Hi guys:
I decided to take some better photos of what I've done. Here they are.
Karl
Hi All:
Upper shed floor is detailed with plywood, Wallboard and loose lumber.
Karl
Hi All:
Got the roof done on the shed today. Next are the fire barrels on the roof. Hope it looks Ok.
Karl
Karl,
As usual, beautiful work. I love the weathering on the shed. Looks old and rusty!
Tom ;D
Great job on the roof Karl. How did you weather it?
Hi Tom & Curt:
Tom and Curt thanks for the complements. Much appreciated.
Roof:
Curt the base coat is Rust-Oleum Satin Warm Caramel from the hardware store. Then it is dry-brushed with Poly-Scale Zinc Chrome Primer and then dry-brushed with Apple Barrel Country Gray craft paint.
Walss:
Walls are board by board. Stained with A&I, The dry-brushed with Poly-Scale Zinc Chrome Primer. Then dry-brushed with Apple Barrel Country Gray.
Karl
Karl
Looking great! The colors look very realistic. As always, I'm following along. If you look at the yellow boxes in the background of my current workbench activity this kit has made it's way from my stash to the workbench. Coming soon, as they say.
Hi John:
Cool can't wait to see what you do with it. Keep me informed as to when you start OK. I'd say this is one of George's more complicated kits.
Thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.
Karl
Thanks Karl.
Hi Curt:
You are quite welcome.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Here's the paring lot on 1/32nd Task board. It is painted with my Sherwin Willaims match for Floquil Concrete. Hope it looks OK,. I will be weathered and scenery will be added as I go along.
Karl
Karl,
Great job on the parking lot. Yes, it look OK. In fact it looks mucho fine. That's pretty much all my Spanish. ;D ;D
Tom ;D
Looks great. Good color match.
Karl, could you share the color mixing code for your Floquil Concrete replacement? My bottle dried out before I could paint a sample to get the color matched. :-\
Bob
Karl, don't play. But those two dogs would love to play, I imagine. Sweethearts.

Hi Tom:
Thanks for The compliment as always.

Karl
Hi Ed:
You need to have a sample on paper to provide to Sherwin Williams, Home Depot or Lowe's to have the color made for you.
Karl
Hi Ed:
I assume you are talking about the two dogs one of the guys posted. I believe ones name was Baxter. Yep I'm sure they would play
Karl
Hi John:
Yeah I built a few on that workbench. It's actually an old antique desk. Will take a photo of the front and post it for you.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Been working on the office.
Karl

Thanks. Glad you are enjoying the build. Cheers back at you.
Karl
Hi Karl,
Your project is coming along very nicely. I always enjoy your builds. What is taking you so long?
Hi Steve:
Thanks. Glad you are enjoying the build. Big kit and lots of work.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Been working on the main roof for the supply shed. I don't like using paper strips on the peaks so I used separate cap shingles. Each Is 1/8th inches square. Here's a pic before I painted it so you can see the shingle easily. A finial casting goes at the top.
Karl
Hi All:
Roof is installed on office building and a few extra crumple up newspapers were added to the platform.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Next are the roof canopies and scenery around the office buildings.
Karl
I really like the 2 types of roofing on the one building. It gives the building character. Nice job Karl.
Hi Curt:
Glad you liked it. Thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.
Karl
Karl,
Looking good on another classic FSM kit ... 8) ...

The roof looks great! I have put two cedar roofs on my gazebo in the back yard. The first time I used cedar trim for the peaks - the second time I used individual shingles on the peaks and it looks much better. Just like in your model the extra work really pays off.
Hi Tommy:
Thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.
Karl
Hi John:
Yeah thank for the compliment. Mush appreciated. Yeah I just don't like paper strips. The cap shingle look far better.
Karl
Hi guys:
Didn't get much done due to a family function this weekend. Got The truck scale and the gas pump built. Have to add stair between office platform and upper deck along the tracks. Hope to get office glued down, stairs and scenery added around the office.
Here's a photo. Hope you like it.

Very nice job Karl.

Karl,
As usual, it just looks perfect my friend. Very Karl like.
Tom ;D
Hi Tom:

Hi Guys:
I've been working on the shop building. Hope to have some photos today.
Karl
Hi All:
Made a bit of progress on the shop Building. painted Braced, widows, Glass & Shads installed. Still have to do the studs in the open garage and dry-brush the walls.
Karl
Looking good Karl. I didn't like the wall colors earlier but with the walls together it does look good. I guess you have a better eye for matching colors than I do. ;)
Hi Curt:
Thanks for the compliment. Used the colors suggested in the kit. Also they are not dry-brushed yet.
Karl
Karl, ..... just beautiful modeling....!!!
Hi Donato:
Thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.
Karl
Hi All:
Insides of the garage walls have all the studs installed.
Karl
Very nicely detailed Karl.
Hi Curt:
Thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.
Karl
Karl,
As usual, beautiful modeling! I especially like the contrast between the really worn out wood shingles and the metal roofing!
Nice looking build going on here Karl!
All I can say Karl.....you're studly!!!
Hi Donato:

Karl....just "realistic". If I had a garage, mine would be as messy as yours!
Hi Donato:
Thanks for the compliment. Here's a progress shot. Got the stairwell built and added the cornices.
Karl
Hi All:
Got some more progress done. Finished the platform on the left side with its details and the vertical support posts.. Also added signs to the stairway. Hope it looks OK. Next will be the canopies at each end of the shop building.
Karl
Looking real nice Karl
Loren...
Great modeling as usual Karl, it's not often I like nail holes , but I do on this one.
Hi Loren:
Thanks for the compliment much appreciated.
Karl
Hi Jan:
Thanks for the compliment. Glad you like the nail holes. In a very old building they are actually nail heads.
Kar.

Got it glued to the base and added side roof overhangs and added the main roof and put its finish coat on. Hope it looks OK.
Have to finish the scenery and casting around the base of the shop.
Karl.
Looks great Karl. Did you shingle the entire peaked roof before covering it with a steel roof?
Looking good Karl!!
Hi Curt:
No George marks out small spots to be shingled then the corrugated roof is applied. Thanks for the compliment.
Karl
Hi Donato:
Thanks buddy appreciate your comment as always.

Karl
Looks great Karl.
Hi Curt:
Thanks buddy appreciate it.
Karl
Karl don't know how I missed this one.
Guess I've been to busy. Plus I had to go through 13 pages to see what you've been up to.
Anyway a fine job your doing on this one. Great coloring and the weathering spot on and not overdone.

Hi Donato:
Thanks for the great bracing photo.
Karl
The wall looks good Karl. Donato's picture took me a few seconds to figure out what I was looking at.
Hi John:
Bracing is done & wall are painted earth.
Thanks for the kind words.
Karl
Hi All:
Was talking with Karl O the other day about this kit. He didn't like the shingled walls and neither do I. I have made new Clapboard walls. They are painted eath with A&I stain and dry-brushed with gray.
Karl
Karl O & Karl S comparing notes it does not get any better. Yes I do want to cast my vote for a much cleaner look when you take away the shingles. Are you still using country grey for dry brushing. I also noted Karl O revived an old topic at another forum. Great to see him back
Mike Sigmon
Jacksonville, FL
Hi Mike:
Yes I am still using Country Gray for dry-brushing. Yeah Karl O. is a great guy.
Karl
Karl, When you use A/I what formula do you use when you apply to a structure. I think mine is too dark
Mike Sigmon
Hi Mike:
I make three mixes of A&I in 16 oz. of 70% rubbing alcohol. 1 Tsp, 2 Tsp and 3 Tsp. I used the 2 Tsp. mix on the supply shed. Hope this helps.
Karl
Karl, Forgot to thank you!
When would you use formula # 1?
Formula # 2 is for most weathering & # 3 is for dark weathering?
Use # 1 when the final color is white?
Mike Sigmon
Jacksonville
Hi Mike:
Hi Mike:
You pretty much came up with where I'd use formula #1. On white or other lighter colors. Such as very light gray.
Karl
Karl
Hi Guys:
Been working on the shop building today. All 54 rafter tails are installed. Also 2 lights over the front doors. Roof is paint SAC Bomber Green and Has A&I Applied along with gray dry-brushing. Am now working on the roof sign.
Karl
Nice work Karl. Looking very good so far.
I specially like the colour on the roof.
Karl, I know there are some people that would never question George Sellios kit design however in this case the structure without the shingles looks better. I am not sure a building supply center would go to the extra trouble of nailing shingles on a warehouse. The clapboard looks perfect with the color you have used. Love how you try to use those green roofs instead of the old stand by black. Is the back of the structure also clapboard?
Mike Sigmon
Jacksonville
Karl
The build is coming along nicely. The clapboard wall looks good - the only reason I can come up with to use cedar siding on a lumber yard building is to try to sell cedar siding.
Very nice modeling Karl. Very nice color choice.
Karl, What procedure did you use for the red metal roof
John, Just found out that MR. Baxter Grandson ordered too much cedar & that I why they used cedar shake on the building
Mike Sigmon
Hi Mike:
Yeah I like Karl O. didn't like the shingles on the walls so I made the new clapboard walls. The Red metal roof is painted red oxide, Then light A&I and dry-brushed with country gray.
Karl
Hi Pollux:
thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.
Karl
Hi John:
Thanks for the compliment. Yeah you may be right about the cedar shakes.
Karl
Karl,
Beautiful work. I like the walls much better as well. I never did like the shingled look of that building.
Love your work brother.

Hi Tom:

Karl, Love the awning! Great use of the color SAC Green for the Tar Paper. Gives the structure a bit of needed color along with the sign
Mike Sigmon
