Woo-hoo! Aaaaannnnnnnnnd...we're off!
Tick-Tock.....
I'm looking forward to the end result.

Hi Jaime:
Sounds good. Got more done tonight. Walls are weathered. Corner trim is is cn. Put glass in windows. Getting there.
Thanks:
Karl
This will be a fun one to watch Karl.
It will be great following the build and I'll make notes of the kinks you find as you go along for when I build mine. :)
Ah yes! The fun begins. :D I'll be following along as well Karl. I like the looks of this one.
Hello,
Not my favorit FSM kit, but I prefer It than the one of last year, and it's always a pleasure to see a fsm kit in progress
I will follow your Work on it Karl.
Eric, Québec city
Great to see a new FSM kit build thread. This is a very special building because it is the one that got George started in the hobby. He tells the story on one of the George Keller videos.
Looking forward to the build Karl.
Karl,
Add me to the list of watchers! This will be fun to see!
Tom ;D
I'm in.
See ya
Bob
You know that I watch all the GOOOD schtuff!! ;D ;D ;D
I'll be watching, Karl.
The story of this structure is also on the first page of 'the fabulous Franklin and South Manchester'. I guess that makes 5 times that George has built this model!
Cheers, Mark.
Hi Mark:
thanks. here's a photo of the finished walls.
Karl
Walls look real good Karl.
Hi Dustin:
thanks The main building walls are assembled. Here's a few photos.
Karl
Pretty cool
Thanx
Bob
Great progress...looking good!

I know there are at least two on the F&SM. Great to see it as a kit.
The antlers over the side entrance...a Karl touch?
Hi Bob:
Thanks appreciate it.
Karl
Hi Dave K.
Thanks. Nope the antlers come with the kit.
Karl
Hi John:
Yeah I always liked that building also.
Karl
Looks great so far, Karl. I really like this kit.
John
This is turning out to be a neat kit. I am going to have to build this one instead of trading it on eBay for lost treasures.
Any idea on the total footprint of the diorama?
I think the Expo crew ought to add a new category to the model contest, Favorite FSM Build Featured in an Online Forum. It'd be neat seeing lots of built FSM kits in a group. After all, we've all seen plenty of unbuilt FSM kits at the shows' dealer rooms.
Jaime
Good grief Karl.....your blistering build pace makes us all look like slackers. :-[

Hi Cuse, Jaime, Greg And Bob:
Hi Cuse: Thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.
Hi Jaime: I believe the base will be 11" x 17".
Hi Greg: Thanks. I just get started and can't quit. I love building. It's that or waste time watching TV.
Hi Bob: Thanks Appreciate The Comment.
Karl
Hi All:
Got a lot of work done last night. I'm doing my kit as a flour mill.
1) Assembled floor & small room behind the 2nd floor freight door.
2) Added The foundation to the Main building.
3) Assembled half of the roof on the front side. Also added the roof hatch. Still need to build it's ladder.
3 Assembled the tower and added the foundation to it. Also added Lee Farm Supply sign to the tower as Mr. Boyd decided to sell this space for advertisment.
Will post some photos later today.

What Dave said! I have one question for you - how may hours will you have in this build?
Hi John :
got me I don't keep track. I'll just say a lot. Put about 7 hours in today. I'll post the photos.
Karl
Hi All:
Jaine asked the size of the diorama. I said it was 11"" X 17". It's actually 11" X 18".
Karl
Hi All:
Here's the latest photos. Put in about 7 hours today.
Karl
Great build! But where is Roxbury Roofing when you need them, after that big storm blew
half your shingles up? ??? ??? ???
Jimmy needs to get his folks in line!! ::) ::) ::) ::)
Hi David:
Thanks I hear you.
Karl
Hi David:
Thanks. You got me where they are when you need them.
Karl
Karl
What are you using to paint the shingles on the roof?
Beautiful roof, Karl.
Hi Karl,
Awesome work. Are those the shingles that came with the kit?
Here is where I am at with my build. I can't compete with Karl's speed. Slow and steady progress.
Looks good to me. . . . . .
thanx
Bob
Both builds are looking great! It is real nice to have them in the same build thread. Thanks,
Karl,
Another FANTASTIC job as always.
Hi John, Dave K & Bobby:
Yes, they are the shingles that come with the kit. I think George said Northeastern made them for him. They are painted with Model Master's SAC bomber Green. Then A&I & dry-brushed with Polyscale D&H gray.
Karl
Hi Frank:
Thanks for adding your build. It looks great.
Karl
Hi Bob:
Thanks to you also.
karl
Hi John:
Yeah glad Frank added his to the thread.
Karl
Hi Bart:
Thanks appreciate it.
Karl
Great job on both builds so far gentleman. Frank, I like the signage, particularly the speed limit sign used as a window pane. Raymo

Hi Tom:
Thanks. Here's the latest photo.
Great job Karl.
It's shaping up to be a nice structure, I'm glad I ordered this one.
Hi Greg:
Thanks appreciate it.
Karl
Hi All:
Finished the platform today. There are several steps to this assembly. It took me about 6 or 7 hours. Took me most of the afternoon. As a matter of fact I just finished the stairs. Also ripped out the bracing under the rear roof in front of the track as it was crooked. Anyway it's back together. Here's a few photos.
Karl
Karl..........
You can box that structure up and send it to me anytime.
very cool
Bob
Karl, that's the sign of a perfectionist - Build, Rip-Out, and Re-Build!
Congrats on your tenacity - that's what makes your builds top notch!!! ;D ;D ;D
Karl, very very nice build. I really like that design. Great colors as always, the roof, especially, is outstanding!
Would look great opposite my Red Hook 2 ;)
John
Hi Bob:
Thanks. I would probably arive in a 1000 pieces.
Karl
Hi David:
Thanks appreciate you comment as always.
Karl
Hi Cuse:
Thanks appreciate your comment. As I said to David you'd get in 1000 pieces. The roof is Northeastern shingles painted Model Master's SAC bobmber green. A&I with D&H gray dry-brushing.
Karl
Karl
I'm new here Karl,
I enjoyed poring over ever photo of this build. Splendid, subtle colors.
May I ask, what is that barrel doing on the roof. Sand for fires?
engineerkyle.com (http://engineerkyle.com)
Hi Kyle:
It's a fire barrel.
Karl
Yeah, but what's in the barrel- sand or water? Whichever it is, how do they fill it or get a full barrel up there?
Great build, buddy. Are we going to have a beer in Scranton?
Hi Mike:
Has water. I guess it's filled by rain. I just follow the instructions. Thanks for the compliment.
Karl
Hi Kyle:
By-the-way thanks for the complment on my build.
Karl
The build is going great. I'm also looking forward to my kit arriving.
The rain barrel questions are interesting. I remember rain barrels being placed all over my Grandparents farm when I was a kid. Before electricity made it into the rural areas (1950's in their case) they saved lots of hand pumping. A barrel on the roof provided water pressure that was useful for many tasks we take for granted today including fighting a fire.
Hi John:
Thanks for the compliment. Barrel explanatoin sounds good to me.
Karl
Karl....
I'll try an explanation here.
In the east there might have been enough rain to keep the barrels full but not in the west.
Barrels showed up on the roofs of some logging sheds and sawmills.
Most western trestles had barrels that had to be manually filled. Most logging companies had flats with water tanks that they dragged around. Some locomotives actually had pumps for fire fighting.
See ya

Tom ;D
Hi John, Dave K and Tom:
Hi guys thanks for the compliments. appreciate it.
Karl
Hi All:
The main building is completely finished. The hook at the end of my 2nd platform rope is not in the kit. I just wanted a hook there. Any way it's done including all the castings. here's a few photos.
Karl
That's a cool kit.... I should be getting mine soon! George rules!
I like it Karl.....
Hi Bobby:

Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks.
Karl
Karl, Looks great. Was the tar paper red or did you color/paint it?
Beautiful work,
Tom
Hi Tom:
Thanks. I painted the tar paper with Floquil Zinc Chromate Primer. Then A&I and dry-brushed with Polyscale D&H gray.
Karl
Is the coal conveyor included in the kit?
Jaime
Hi Jaime:
Yes it does.
Karl
Hi All:
the structures are finished. My casting box is empty. There were some extra pigeons so I used them. You have to find the one that is out of place. A little bit of scenery and I'm done.
Karl
The pigeon is a little hard to see but he's there.

Frank, I love your fading and peeling white paint. Really evident on this pic of yours. Your details and rust spots are superb, as are the signs (surprise!). Did you do new ones for the kit, or had you done the originals that come with the kit?
Even if Karl is done, we want to see updates on this- here or another thread.

Frank
Mike,
Thanks for the kind words. I did the originals that come with the kit. I only added a few additional signs. The one on the lower right of the front wall and the one on the right wall. If you want new signs if you get the kit, let me know and I will be glad to make them for you. :D
Frank
Good Morning Karl,
Again, I have to commend your on your work. This is a great looking structure and your attention to detail [as always] is what makes your build threads so enjoyable. I especially like the roof detail. By the way, my vote is in for you to build a SRM kit. Thanks for sharing..... 8)
Good Morning Frank,
I also have to commend you on your build. Both you and Karl have done an exceptional job and it is good to see someone jump in on a build so it is able to show off the different styles/colors of the same building. Thanks for sharing your build. Great work..... :)

Frank,
Very, very nice or as we tend to say here in New England, "wicked awesome!!"
I really like all of the subtle weathering, looks very natural and all blends together nicely. By the way, what did you use for your ground cover ?? It looks different from what we usually see and use, but I really like the variations ...
Thanks in advance and looking forward to the final stages of your Boyd's coming together.
--Paul
Beautiful build top to bottom! Just like in the 1:1 world, "white on white" can have tons of variety and interest.
I really like your ground cover too, particularly the relative lack of green and how it's creeping over the paved areas and track.
Thanks for sharing...John

Karl, the Krylon Sand paint you used on the walls, is that the camo sand color? I have been looking at some of the Krylon colors, and just wondered.
Thanks.
