Yeah, but what's in the barrel- sand or water?  Whichever it is, how do they fill it or get a full barrel up there?

Great build, buddy. Are we going to have a beer in Scranton?

Hi Mike:

Has water. I guess it's filled by rain. I just follow the instructions. Thanks for the compliment.

The build is going great. I'm also looking forward to my kit arriving.

The rain barrel questions are interesting. I remember rain barrels being placed all over my Grandparents farm when I was a kid.  Before electricity made it into the rural areas (1950's in their case) they saved lots of hand pumping. A barrel on the roof provided water pressure that was useful for many tasks we take for granted today including fighting a fire.

Karl....

I'll try an explanation here.

In the east there might have been enough rain to keep the barrels full but not in the west.

Barrels showed up on the roofs of some logging sheds and sawmills.

Most western  trestles had barrels that had to be manually filled.  Most logging companies had flats with water tanks that they dragged around.   Some locomotives actually had pumps for fire fighting.

Did you ever notice how many towns are named after their water towers ! ?

Hi All:

The main building is completely finished. The hook at the end of my 2nd platform rope is not in the kit. I just wanted a hook there. Any way it's done including all the castings. here's a few photos.

To All,

Here is where I am currently at with the kit.  The tower is not attached just placed for the pics.  The roofs are not attached and need to be painted.  Just wanted to post some progress.  I can't let Karl get all of the limelight. ;D

Frank,

I think your weathering on the structure is right on! Very well, done! I'm only assuming you know Karl?

Thanks for sharing your build.
