Good morning all, Well there is only 100 days till the great Expo days. I was wondering how many of our forum members will attend. It would be great to see a list of members who plan on going and how far you have to travel and how will you get there.
I will be going, coming from Southern NH, and will be driving.

If we schedule a forum dinner this year we should stay away from Thursday evening. There are premium clinics scheduled. I need to look at the schedule again is there anything scheduled for Friday evening?

Got it!
I'll be there unless work throws me a curve ball. Google Maps tells me I'm 149 miles away (coming from Ct). I usually ride over with Mr. Seckler, but I may have to drive solo this year.
Wish I could attend , but the fact it is in March and I would like to combine this with a golfing trip or something like that just doesn't work out for me.
I plan to attend, though I haven't booked anything yet. I'll be driving (probably by myself) from a few miles east of Dan, in Rockingham County, NH. When I tried to drive I84 last July, I gave up at Port Jervis because PA had decided to rebuild every bridge from there to Scranton all at once and the backup stretched for miles. I wonder what pleasant surprise they might have for me this March?
I plan to be there.
I'm hoping to fly in to PHL and then drive there on the blue route or the red route or the green route or drone other route.
In lieu of a dinner THE Runner suggested a meet and mingle last year and that way lots of folks could drown in and out as they could.

flying into Pittsburgh, visiting my daughter, then wife and I are wending our way to Scranton. After expo taking my California girl to "Big Apple" for her first visit ever (65 th bday present).
David
I'm flying from San Diego CA (where I will have been at an industry convention for a few days) into Newark NJ. I'll be driving over to Scranton Wednesday 25th for the EXPO and back on Sunday 29th while my wife visits family in Brooklyn NY. For what it is worth to those who still need to book airline tickets - in my case the cost of adding Newark/Scranton/Newark flights to my air travel was more than the cost of renting a car.
Crazy itinerary but serves me right for voting "yes" at the 2013 EXPO to hold the next one in Spring!
Unfortunately the EXPO organizers have not already posted the Layout Tours schedule. I booked early to get an economic airline fare so my schedule will probably preclude me visiting layouts. Same thing happened last year that caused me to miss the F&SM open house. :(

Aha , so if I come I will have to take a fire extinguisher with me or buy one nearby. ;)
Whew.....I had more than a bit of a scare this week. When I went to enter my days off in the official vacation spreadsheet here at the office I found that the week of the EXPO was blacked out for my type (analysts) because it just so happens to coincide with a project deadline. I went ahead an "un"-blacked out the days I'm planning on taking off and entered them. I was afraid someone was going to tell me I couldn't do that. I finally checked with my boss and he didn't have a problem it. :D

If you were stopping in Philadelphia first I'd offer you a ride.

Similar to the last EXPO, I have arranged for a meet-and-greet for our group from 7-9 PM on Friday March 27th at the Hilton Hotel. We will have a cash bar and food/snacks can be ordered from the bar menu. There are not many time frames that will work, and this seems the best one. The people in that night's Platinum clinic are done at 8 PM, and this will allow them an hour to socialize with us.
This format seems preferable to a dinner off campus in several ways. Won't have to arrange rides and designated drivers. More conducive to mixng and meeting more people, as a sit-down dinner typically only allows conversation with those across from and on either side of you. Also, it doesn't require a three or more hour time commitment, and a $50 dinner bill.
I'll post the location within the hotel within a week or so. Will this work for everybody?

..I'll be there in "vendor" mode...coming from either MD or NC...depending on if/when the house sells....and I'll be doing a clinic too....not sure who or if I will have any travel companions at this time......I'll plan on being at the Friday night bash.....thanks Mike, for putting that together....and Randy for putting this all on paper......
Sounds great but I just hope you can make it Mike. Missed you at the Pittsfield one. ;D
Thanx Jaime for the suggestions. I may have to talk my daughter into taking a day off of work :(

Oftentimes they have shuttles in between airports. There may be one of those between Pittsburgh airport and Wilkes Barre airport.

further clarifucation!!!
Jimmy should also know - he lives by the 'tuther' rules !
We can also tell you how the cow ate the cabbage!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Randee, I am on the list if you will add me. I'm flying to Wilkes Bare- Scranton by way of Detroit from Minneapolis, but may try to catch a ride with Jaime if easier to go to Philadelphia. We may find Bill Obenauf on the way and can reprise our airport run from the last Expo and create some fodder for Bill's after-dinner show.
Speaking of Bill Obenauf, he said to add him to the list as well. He will join us right after he wraps up his clinic, provided attendees help him clean up the resin. This forum party may be so big it will have to be moved to the parking lot.

Hi gang-
Thanks for including me in the get together. I just went and double checked the Expo website and noticed that the clinic is scheduled to run from 6:00-8:30. Any chance you'll all be hanging around past 9:00?
Also, how many of you that are part of the get together are also signed up for my water clinic? Maybe the last half hour of the "water" clinic will have to feature water from "the land of sky blue water"! (Quick--without Googling, name the beer)
Bill
"Hamms" Bring on the bear!!!
Hell they'll be there until you get there and buy a round!!! :)
Jerry
I'm signed up Bill - looking forward to it!
Cheers, Mark.
Don't worry- we'll wait till you get there and then some. We will have made water several times by the time you have made your resin water and can join us. Our room is right next to the main bar so we won't be hard to find. Happy New Year all!
Greetings folks! I recently signed up for the Expo, had to get a room at the Radisson across the street. Looks like a neat hotel though.
I haven't arranged flight plans yet. Flying in from Seattle to probably Philly and then taking a rental car to Scranton.

You have a good point. I was assuming he was entering the backpack size diorama contest this year.
So , there's is a get together in the bar on Friday night?! This is a definite?
Bob C.
There will definitely be a forum get-together on Friday evening from 7-9 PM. The location will be either in a meeting room with a separate cash bar that is adjacent to the main bar of the hotel, or in some other meeting room in the convention hotel with a cash bar. We will give you plenty of notice in this thread and with signs at the Expo as to where. I have flown some of my advance team to Scranton to scout prime locations, and there is an excellent Irish Pub next to the hotel.
The addition of Bob Mitchell's Monster Kit Bash Challenge event For Friday at 9 PM has created a space snafu that is being worked out. Apparently it will require all of the hotel's cash bar capabilities. Surprise! Surprise!
We will post our exact location ASAP. We will provide name tags with your Forum(s) handle and real name.

OK gang- here is the update you have been waiting for!
The Friday night Expo Forum Get-together (Forum Frolic? Meet-and-greet?) will be outside the Amphitheater on the second floor of the Hilton. Just up the staircase from the hotel lobby. It is also adjacent to the clinic rooms for those attending platinum clinics.
Our cash bar will be from 7-9 PM, but the good news is that our bar will stay open much later. The same cash bar will be used for the exciting Bob Mitchell/ Bill Obenauf KITBASH that starts at 9 PM!
Friday March 27th 7-9 PM at the Expo, Scranton PA Hilton
It would help if you sent me name tag information for you and any guests- e.g. Real names; Forum handle; City and State
My email is below after my signature, or if you must, send me a PM. See you all there, and travel safely.

What'cha mean Friday night? The Expo started today, so I'm already frolic'in'!!!
And NO stinkin' cash bar - I've got credit with the Household Bartender!!! (At least for the moment!).
And I didn't have to climb no stinkin' staircase!
After seeing photos of the vendor room, my checkbook & credit cards are glad I didn't make it.
I'm particularly sorry I'll miss the opportunity to meet Mark Dalrymple, whose work I really admire (and I've been to Christchurch, it's a very nice town!)

I would like to thank Mike for arranging the get together last night. It was great to be able to put faces to the forum members.
It was a great time.

Thanks for organizing, Mike. It was indeed good to meet forum members; I had a number of interesting conversations. It was also fun to see a bunch of internet acquaintances 300 miles from home discover they live in a 25 mile radius.
Mike,
It was great seeing you again. And, thank you again for setting up our meet and greet. I really enjoyed seeing everyone. I was dogging the Judge for not coming Friday night and as it turned out we should be very happy he didn't.
He came down with the flu and when he got home he could barely talk and had a temp. of 101+.

It was great seeing you again. And, thank you again for setting up our meet and greet. I really enjoyed seeing everyone. I was dogging the Judge for not coming Friday night and as it turned out we should be very happy he didn't.
He came down with the flu and when he got home he could barely talk and had a temp. of 101+.
Tom :D
Yes, thank you Mike for putting this together and it was great to see you again.
Dang, I hope the Judge gets well soon (and my flu shot was effective).
It was great seeing everyone again/meeting some new folks. Thanks for setting this up, Mike. And Randy for keeping track.
