Two weeks ago I got a PM from forum member Tom Boyd. Knowing I was a big Atlantic Coast Line fan, he wanted me to know of a company selling ACL Bulkhead flat cars. That company is Tangent Scale Models out of Ashville, NC.

Actually I've never heard of Tangent Scale Models and I very much appreciate Tom sending me the web site.

Now, the reason for this thread is two fold. First, to let everyone know about Tangent Scale Models and the fantastic, very highly detailed models they offer.

Secondly, and certainly most important is the superior customer service I received from Tangent Scale Models.

I placed an order for over $200.00 and literally within hours I received an email stating that all the models I ordered weren't in stock. And, here is an important part of this email.

David, I guess the owner, told me I could get a full refund or he would send me the models in stock and refund the difference. It's important to note here that he gave me the choice. He could have just sent what he had and afterwards tell me they were out of certain models. Not only did he give me the choice but he gave me the date to expect the out of stock models.

Their customer service was second to none. Each email or inquiry I had was answered within a 24 hour period and answered the question or concern I had.

Now, about the models. When my order arrived, I was amazed at the quality of the cars. The details are simply fantastic. These cars are, in my humble opinion, better than the detailed Kadee cars.

I ordered two ACL Bulkhead flat cars and the Protex Industries, Inc. tank car. I want to put them in the display case and not on the layout. However, they are on the layout and are a wonderful addition to the Atlantic and Southern RR. fleet.

Tom, I picked up one of the little 3 dome tank cars at a show about a year ago.  It's such a neat little car, I had to have it.

Dan,

I see they have kits and undec. models for sale as well. I'll be getting a few more and repaint them for the Seaboard. The SAL takers were freight car brown.

Interesting - I also had never heard of them. I'm going to have to work a few more hours so I can order a couple to try.

A lot of Tangent's models are post-1965, but I have a gon and a 3-dome tank.  Nice, but so far tough enough to survive op sessions and playing with trains in between.

Since my last post, I've also bought Tangent's model of an 8,000 gal. acid tank car built by General American.  Also nice.

James,

Tangent models are definitely excellent models. The post 1965 dates doesn't help me but I do like the roster. I got one of the Protex 6,000 gallon tank car. However, the price of $45.00 per car means I'll only get one.
