I recently acquired this unit from brasstrains.com.  The main reason to purchase it was because it's an old Sunset brass loco that someone installed a sound decoder in.  I have a few brass units that need DCC sound installed, and though I could send them off to have someone else do them (I've done this with a few units already), I figured I need to know how to do this in case something goes wrong with the unit.  So somewhere down the line, the unit will be taken apart to see how the decoder/wiring was installed. The second reason was it was so cheap (less than $300).   ;D  The paint isn't perfect, but not bad.  The sound is OK, too.  Decoder Pro can't tell me what kind of decoder is in it, I'll have to figure it out when I take it apart. It runs really well and was able to easily pull a 16 car train.  The GN connected to the CB&Q in Minneapolis so I think the "Q" "borrowing" motive power is certainly plausible.  This project is way on the back burner for now, I have a kit to finish first.

Jeff,

Great addition to the layout. I have a couple of GN brass steamers I'll paint for the A&S. This isn't a far stretch as the ACL took over the AB&C and in their roster they had two AJ-2 class 4-6-2's from the GN Ry.

I'll paint one for the Atlantic and Southern and the other one will be painted in the original GN paint with the GN green boiler and steam cylinder sides.

BTW, now is the time to buy brass as the secondary market is at an all time low.

Here is a link to the web for a text about the GN and NP owning the Burlington as early as 1901.  They were sort of held apart by an anti trust suit in 1904 but they were always closely linked.

The two bought up all the shares so as to get a route to Chicago.

Sooooooooo..........  After all of that.......

It is completely plausible for a GN loco on your pike.........  Besides

It's your pike.  You could have an ACL pot running around and only the pickers of nits would have anything to say.
